Anyone who wants us to go down needs their head testing, the club will lose a reported£100 million in tv revenue and sponsorship etc, plus there would a fire sale of players and I doubt we have inserted a relegation clause in player’s contracts,we could end up in administration, look at Leeds, they have never recovered from it

Time to give some of the youngsters a chance. Branthwaite hasn’t let anyone down and his reward for this has been to see Keane and Holgate continue to get picked despite making howlers week in week out. Onyango should get a chance as soon as he’s fit. Gomes’ pathetic tracking for their second goal tomorrow was a disgrace. Dobbin has shown he’ll try and run with the ball and create things in the snippets he’s had in the first team. Reece Welch looks like a beast- he should be on the bench every week. If we’re ever winning a game and need to throw on a centre back he’ll win headers and help see a game out.

I really don’t understand the argument that playing these kids is too much of a risk or ‘throwing them in at the deep end’. I bet they are absolutely desperate to be thrown in. The real risk is to carry on playing the same lazy and weak morons who have got us into this position.
I don't see why we shouldn't play them at least in the away games. We're getting pumped in those games anyway.

Do you even want to keep most of our players now? They are spineless and not very talented based on all the evidence we see each week.

I think sadly we’ll have to keep a large proportion of them regardless given that we won’t have the budget to buy an entirely new team. Sell DCL and then look to bring in good value signings who will help the team perform better. Not easy to do with our history of recruitment.

We need to be the Dogs of War once again to stop the drop.
Make Goodison a fortress again, so when we play away, all are wary to play us. Come on you Blues.

Had that feel v Newcastle for sure.

Think it can work v Man. United and Chelsea (their recent record up here is a bit like Arsenal isn't it and that game will be around CL ties) but not actually sure it will work as well playing Palace or Leicester. Brentford as potential do or die right at end of the season sells itself for atmosphere.

According to some, relegation clauses are in some contracts. I cant see that they wouldn't be to be fair as I'm sure a good few clubs would have this as a standard? But having said that most clubs arent Everton!

Sounds crazy but part of me is thinking we need to go down to try and reset some of the weak mentality and cancer that runs through the club.

I kind of get this thinking, but honestly have this board done anything to convince us that they would be able to use it as a reset and opportunity to stop the rut?

If anything, it compounds the issue and we rot away in the championship / league one for the next decade or so becoming another 'sleeping giant'. We need to avoid going down at all costs.

We can overhaul the squad without a relegation. It is actually allowed and sentimentality towards players is not actually essential at professional football clubs. There needs to be a will to be ruthless though, and this club have repeatedly refused to make the tough decisions.

That's the concern. I don't think they would be ruthless if we stayed up and we'd have the core of this squad. They might need to be forced to act.

so your “theory” is to go down? lol christ lad

they’re has to be another way lol
There is another way Matty.

If and I'm far from sure that we will , we stay up we need a complete reset throughout the club but particularly on the playing side.

We have a lot of high earners out of contract and probably 3 decent saleable assets - Richarlison, DCL and perhaps Pickford.

I'd sell and replace all 3 with young hungry players.

I'd try to sell the likes of Keane, Gomes , Holgate , Allan , Doucoure but highly unlikely that we will get fees for all 5.

Recruitment needs to centre on younger players and I'd look to buy the best young players in the Championship and France.

It's not a strategy without risk and an inexperienced side might well struggle at first but I'd rather go down that route than more Delphs and Rondons.

What depresses me is the possibility that the vast majority of this squad already know deep down that their time is up at Everton, and that their chances of being offered 'lucrative' contracts would be if we were to go down, so in essence, they'll have nothing to lose.

Other than Pickford, Mina, Richarlison, Gordon, Gray, DCL no-one in their right mind would take any of the cowards we have in our squad. And once you take those players out, you're left with a squad that would struggle in League 2. Seriously....
