You might not like Nani, but you can't say he hadn't made it. He had.

Also, I thought Nuno Valente was a pretty good left back for us to be honest.

I didn't say I didn't like Nani.....I just asked Mikey if he rated him

I actually have him listed above the line with the successful ones :p

Sorry, by asking about Nani i took the assumption that you may not have thought he'd made it as a success.

If Nani have had an ounce of consistency about him, he'd have been a top top player.

My point was that him scoring 16 goals in Portugal is hardly a good barometer of how he'd do in the Premier League, as the Portugese League is significantly weaker to the English Premiership

I was using Leigh Griffiths as an example, because he amassed a sickening amount of goals last season, and no one would seriously suggest us signing him in 2016, not now we have the money to get someone whose actually proven

Back in 2013 when we still didn't have a lot of money? Maybe, as a back up option. But not today

Basically, scoring loads of goals in a weaker league doesn't mean you can do it in the Prem, even though there's no problem with it being taken into consideration. I don't see what's unreasonable about that as a statement. Both Scotland and Portugal have weaker leagues than the Premiership

Again, if the Portugese League is so great, why are big clubs in that market poaching Scottish youngsters?

....I think it's perfectly reasonable for Mikey to point out the standard of the Portugese league and the achievement of scoring 16 goals whilst playing in it. There will, however, be some decent players in there in much the same way as pointing out that there is some quality to be found in Scotland (VvD).

I think the standard of the league has to be a consideration but there are lots of truly top quality players out there who came from humble beginnings.

It's worth considering that mitroglou that Fulham signed for 12 million a couple of years ago and flopped big time scored 20 in that league this year.

You need to be outstanding there to be able to thrive in a top level league, similar to the Scottish league as mentioned previously. This fella hasn't been outstanding, just like there isn't an outstanding talent in the Scottish league and hasn't been since forster or VVD.

A massive body swerve for me. Striking similarities to niasse as others have pointed out.

Done the standard YouTube video research, looks like another Niasse! Plus African players go in January so that just leaves us with Lukaku (if he stays). I'd look for a European player personally.

Aboubakar is definitely not another Niasse.

I think the other problem is where do you buy from? We have bought from Russia and been burnt. Italian strikers rarely make the jump across well, while those from Holland are inconsistent.

If the alternative is to buy from Spain/Germany people will want European football. Then you haver premier league strikers like Deeney who are 28 priced at 30 million.

I think we have to trust the manager in who he wants to go for. It is a difficult market to buy in.

I think you hit the real point in your last couple of sentences. It would be foolish to determine future transfer targets by how other players from that league have done. We just have to trust the managers judgement. Even though we just had a bad experience with the last one.
