Reports: Lukaku agrees new five year deal

Other reports have his wage at as much as £140k and no mention of a release clause. I'd say that level of wage is probably what he's worth in the market, so I think that's far more likely than the Mirrors estimate

...I would've thought so. Reports indicate Lalana and Coutinho have deals circa £150k per week so I would think he must be in that ball park. I still expect some type of release clause unless they have a 'gentlemans' agreement.

On reflection Dave, that final broad brush comment is rather deragotory and many of our American fan base will likely be offended by that... an apology might be in order.

And whilst we don't (normally) do razzmatazz announcements, at least we are getting improved media interest on the back of the perceived arrangement between Farhad Moshiri and Jim White.

Yes, it's not traditional Everton but, the times as Bob Dylan said, are a-changing.
Do you not find our American brethren to be more extrovert as a whole than us mate?

I do - US tourists are generally loud and obnoxious so I think the stereotype stands up to scrutiny.

Not counting the sound US of A posters on here obviously.

They have guns.

Interesting alternative slant on the where-would- Everton-be without-Lukaku's-goals argument..

I have no doubt there is, it would be a fairly standard feature of a modern contract. Going back to the time when we signed Lukaku, Martin Lipton went from saying it wouldn't happen to being utterly baffled when it did to being baffled year on year when he stayed. I think Mirror rumours should be put in the jokes thread, honestly think Sportofact has called more right

I think the Mirror's opinion of EFC has been formed under the auspices of that Kopite bell, Derek McGovern.

Given that everyone has heard Lukaku's many comments bout wanting to play in the champions league and win trophies, its pretty certain that the new contract that he signs will have a release clause.

It guarantees Everton a minimum transfer fee, and avoids a long drawn out saga. If Chelsea want him, Everton will say, meet the buy out clause - end of discussion. Hopefully that allows any deal to happen quickly, allowing us time to find replacements.

Not sure how it works if someone meets the buy-out clause a day before the window closes and Lukaku wants to go. There must be a provision in the contract to avoid that happening.
