In fairness he was asked if the contract guaranteed another one or two seasons out of Rom to which he answered there are no guarantees in football. He couldnt really say anything else. If he said yes and Rom went in the summer he'd look a complete dork.
When asked about summer transfers he said he's concentrating on this season and this week.
His comments are no surprise and no hidden message. I think we all know the score with contracts these days.

I agree but, IMO, him signing is not solely based on him being promised all kinds of top players coming in in the summer as some on here are claiming as fact, he will probably be given assurances that if a club comes in for him that he wants to go to there will be an agreed clause, he's deffo going to sign an improved contract on more wages but not just because he's been promised all kinds in the summer.

the good thing to take from this is he isn't looking to leave unless it's a move upwards to the top TOP clubs. At the end of last season it looked like he wanted out and would have taken any route just to get away from the club but things have clearly improved under Moshiri and Koeman. At 23 i think we'll get one more season out of him before he moves and if - by some miracle - we get top 4 or better and recruit well in the summer he might stay longer.

the lad is 23 years old, whats important to him now is that he can play week in, week out, if he moves to top clubs as we're saying his name might be the first on the team sheet.
At the moment he is the star player getting all the attention about to command huge amounts of wages and with Moshiri we can go about and match that.
If he leaves and goes somewhere he is endanger of not meeting his future potential, look at some of the young talents that have gone to city over the years who have just kept the bench warm and there name has died out

He wouldn't be resigning at all if he didn't see ambition in the club. He'd just leave this summer. Contracts mean far less than they used to in terms of loyalty but with 2 years left in May we'd have been forced to cash in if he'd have said no. Now we're not and for that to have happened he simply must feel that we've got a chance of pushing on this summer

How could he leave in the summer if no one came in for him and contracts are worth a lot if you're getting lets say an extra 50 grand a week, i'm not saying he hasn't seen an improvement in ambition with Mosh but what he definitely has seen is 2 transfer windows go by without signing the players to meet his own ambition.
