Reports: Lukaku agrees new five year deal

Hopefully this means we have him for maybe one more season and that there is a big release clause :D

If in fact he does sign on the dotted line.....and this grizzled are bugger ain't counting no chooks just yet.....I think it means he will be here at least another two or three years.

Why?

Because if he really wanted a move why would his agent have him sign a new deal which would make it way more expensive for a potential suitor to buy him ergo decrease his chances of getting one

The shorter the time left on his contract the cheaper he would be to buy so the agent is hardly going to upset that scenario.

Surely?

Do you remember when Luis Suarez signed a new deal and the RS thought he was going to stick around?

Yeah, this feels a bit like this.

He'll have a huge buyout clause - which will possibly be activated this summer.

But that is OK too....most of us are expecting him to leave in the summer anyway so at least this way the club ensures we get top buck.

Jim White: "Lukaku will put pen to paper this week, it's all legally agreed, it's all done. It just needs to be signed off".

So, we get all excited by this despite the fact that he's been "close to signing" all season? Clearly, I'm missing something.o_O

Romelu Lukaku has agreed a new five year deal at Everton with "all terms legally agreed between all representatives" according to Jim White on talkSPORT.

Jim White: "Lukaku will put pen to paper this week, it's all legally agreed, it's all done. It just needs to be signed off".

More to follow.
So basically still not signed yet, so really we're no further on than 99.999% that was quoted last week and also prior to Christmas. Until the club announces he's signed I'm not going to get excited.

Once he does sign (fingers crossed) it doesn't mean he's staying obviously. But I'd be surprised if Rom doesn't then give us another 12 months for the club to show him we mean business and to bring in the quality of player needed to compete consistently for top 4.

A lot of people on here dissing the importance of getting a new contract signed, but that just shows either ignorance or extreme negativity on their part. It definitely put's the club in a stronger position compared to going into the summer with our star striker having just 2 years left and refusing to sign a new contract.

Need to get Ross tied down too asap.

Its great that he's about to sign a contract but this is what i think of when i hear rom signing a new contract -

Delph initially turned down the move and said last weekend that he would be staying with Villa but he has now signed a five-year deal with City.

“I'm not leaving.

"I'm staying at the football club and I can't wait for the start of the Premier League season."

All this means is he'll go for a good fee, and that's about all we can hope for. Just hope it really is a huge, huge fee, and that it all gets re-invested into the first team. 75m for Romelu Lukaku in this day and age isn't unreasonable... that, along with investment from our owner, should move us onto the next level. Rather keep him and build around him, but if we can't break the top 6 with him, we'll have to try without once he decides he's waited long enough for us to get into Europe.

Also, I HATE that Jim White is essentially our press office, that's ridiculously smalltime.

yeah it doesnt mean much...but it does ensure we get max fee if he does leave

Unless there's a release clause in it, you're saying to any prospective buyer that it would take a world record fee to get him out his contract. Good news whether he stays or goes. His age, profile, experience, goal record would command an astronomical figure.
