Reputation System Disabled

It's with regret that we have disabled/removed the reputation system.

There's been a sharp rise in Evertonians leaving abusive reputation comments to other Evertonians.

Unfortunately, the way in which the software is configured, we're unable to notice an abusive reputation comment unless the particular member notifies us.

I'll be trawling through all comments made in the past several weeks and banning any member who has left abusive messages.

I'll be looking to introduce an alternative system which doesn't leave us so open to abuse.

For many (OK me) it was the only contact we got with other members, those little green - or red - squares were like the long extended fingers of every evertonian, slowly stroking you, soothing you.

Everything is going to be OK, everything is fine... and that was a decent/informed/silly/funny/perverted post. Well done.

Haha. I'm gonna have to write down in a little black book* all the reps I want to hand out, with a footnote referencing the post and the thread I'm repping for. I will then use this when Danny is forced to bring back the system due to popular demand.

*The little book might actually be purple velvet with a barely visible grey paisley motif. Or then again it might not

I'm gutted.

Being able to neg rep someone allowed you to say "Eh lad, that was a tit of a thing to say" without starting a war about it. Being able to sign a neg rep "Chico" was an added bonus.

Can't we just have something on the rep pop-up to say that if you're abusive you'll be thrown out and something on the page which shows your reps telling people to report any abusive comments ?

To the best of my knowledge it's only non-gold members who seem to get snided. If everyone could see who left them rep then it would be a lot easier for people to report snidey posters, and I imagine people would be a lot less inclined to snide. Without precious anonymity.

Just a thought.

Wouldn't say most forums have an internal 'Like' system as such though mate.

There used to be a mod for vBulletin where each user had a rating. It was based on a range of factors, including things like reputation, number of posts, threads started, length of membership, # of replies to posts and that kind of thing. vBExperience I think it was called. Might be worth looking at.
