Richard Keys claims Rafael Benitez tried to leave Newcastle United for Everton twice

I’ve just googled Benítez and Newcastle. He got the job on March the 11th and you are blaming him for their relegation. Embarrassing mate I would delete my account oh here if I tried to use this as my argument against him.

They were 2nd from bottom, he had 2 days in the job then they played Leicester away, who won the title. In his last 9. He had city, Liverpool, spurs, Southampton who finished 6th and a derby v Sunderland. Ended up 3rd from bottom 2 points from safety.
Newcastle were better than Sunderland, but he got outfoxed by Sam Allardyce

Having pondered this I've become more and more convinced that he should be our main target:

Won a shedload of trophies
Experienced
Knows the area
Realistic and attainable
Likely would have a get out clause in china

People say what they want but our dressing room would give Rafael respect- they take the pee with managers like Silva and Martinez but they wouldn't with a bloke who's won the lot.

I think we could get a good 3 years of stability with Rafael to get us back best of the rest and in Europe which is what we should have got post Martinez.

This whole debate is pointless.
We already know that Brands is recruiting players (and by extension any future managers),to suit a style of football which is totally alien to the fat Spanish kopite.
We know this because Brands has stated it.

True - my only concern with that is the club just doesn't suit playing the tippy tappy around the back way.

Goodison is at its best when we play in your face rock and roll football.

To truly play the way Brands likes you need CL quality players which we just dont have.

Tippy tippy is overrated garbage - just look at Arsenal. The football you speak of showed it destroys the dull tappy style with aplomb when Heynkes Bayern destroyed Barcelona.

Personally find it quite hard to think of the best replacement for Silva, for sure he’ll be gone soon. He looks lost and our team reflect that.

When it comes to who Moshiri would box tick, and he’s the one who’s going to appoint, I think this fella ticks the most by some distance. Doubt his past positions / history even count.

Not got a clue if his contract in China has escape clauses but I’d guess Moshiri and the board will be all over that by now. Reckon he’d jump at the opportunity and he’d be a long term manager (4/5 yrs plus), something our owner needs more than ever given the ground move ...

I have always loved Rafael as a manager. He may have a kind of odd way of looking at it but he gets the best out of his guys. Digs down deep to get results. Would be interested to see how he would line up the squad.
