Richarlison at Spurs

It's not that I think Everton should be the limit of Richarlison's ambition, but the old David Moyes adage continues to ring true: "Not many leave Everton and go on to better things."

He was worshipped here. I don't suppose he had a whole lot of say in whether he stayed or went, but, anyway, sometimes the grass isn't greener...

He was our best player, would be our best player now, but he is not Champions League quality. People that suggested this last year got shot down because he was der greatest ever and was going to Real Madrid for £120m to win the Ballon D’or and the World Cup golden boot. It’s fine to say that a player is good but not world class, even if you like them.

And he would have struggled under this management too. He wasn't all that great last year.

Use the Gordon money in the summer to bring him home.

I know, pal, but you know as well as I do that's been a rarity during his time at Spurs so far. He needs consistent starts to keep his Brazil place imho.

He needs to leave Spurs in pursuit of football for me. He’s not the level required to start regularly for them and they have better players in his position. I honestly think if we stay up there’s a real likelihood we will bring him back on a loan with an obligation for about £40m.

I'm getting a very distinct feeling of deja vu mate... Didn't we already do this with Pienaar?

Just demonstrates the difference between the expectations of playing for a club like Everton at the present moment and a club that don't really have any realistic major trophy ambitions but do expect to compete to some degree.

He scored 10 goals last season and I believe 3 of them were penalties and that was enough for hero worship amongst vast swathes of the fanbase. Whilst I'm not suggesting he doesn't merit that status, as his goals unquestionably kept us up, he really doesn't look up to Spurs' level and that isn't even particularly high.

I do however find it surprising at the amount of people who'd take him back. I love his attitude and how much Everton clearly meant to him but he has major deficiencies in his game that he'll never be able to overcome. If Dyche performs the miracle and we are still a Premier League club come what May, we have to be looking for attackers with significantly more upside than what Richarlison has. Yes he's better than the crud we have now, but we should always aim to do the right thing no matter how many times we get it wrong.

If he goes the entire season without slotting then it wouldn't surprise me if they look to move him on, and I don't want what is an already overly sentimental club going to Levy and begging to take him back.

Indeed. This was precisely my position. He is a very good player, capable of inspiration, but deeply flawed at the highest level of the game. People held him up because he played for Brazil - but I suspect many of those people haven't really been watching Brazil over the last 15 years...

Brazil, like Germany at the moment, are not the barometer they usually were. I mean, Thilo Kehrer is a German international and still looks a bad West Ham United player just as some of us predicted he would be prior to his move.
