The football finance stuff bores me to tears, but even I appreciate that resource and investor enthusiasm isn't infinite and see what happened at Villa, Leeds, QPR etc.

There's also a knock on effect with fair play etc.

I think the better argument is the benchmarking element versus other fees, and how bonkers the market is making it difficult to really gauge what a player is worth...

We’ll never know the full story behind each fee though, we only found out the other week we didn’t even pay 30 million for Pickford. The one thing I would trust Everton with is the cautious nature we’ve used to protect the club from a Leeds/Villa scenario. After decades of that type of operation I’m sure we’re not throwing around fees now (especially with Brands here) that would put us in trouble.
