Lukaku had been playing for us for a year. I don’t think anyone was calling him overhyped.
This is a big fee for a relatively unproven player. It’s ok to admit that.

I disagree many similar comments were made on Lukaku, he’s not unproven he scored and assisted in just under 50% of Watfords games started last season, of course there is context. The lad played in the South American championship before joining Watford. Essentially what that means his was playing the last year and a half without a break.

As for the fee, it’s a non event, big fees for young players are irrelevant, 35 mill over five years is 7.5 mill a season, at that stage he’s 25 with a likely resale value, if he’s 28 it’s a big fee.

I don't think 1 season in the prem is premier league proven mate (38 games, 5 goals) and as has been mentioned, for most of that season he wasn't actually that good.

Somewhat PL proven anyway. He was ace until we talked to Silva, from then on their whole team was rubbish.
