Bit more too it than that though, he was spouting about his next move and big teams etc almost from the moment he signed.
While there’s a degree of honestly in it, and in truth most fans know the score, the persistent ramming down our throats via foreign press at every opportunity is why he’s not held in higher regard.

There's probably more to it than that as well if you think back to who his agent was at the time and how he used to push moves publically etc. But Lukaku didn't have to say it himself.

He would be considered a PL icon for us due to his goal record if he had just kept his mouth shut. He peaked with us and no other fan base has really taken to him after he left us in the way that we did.

Richie on the other hand, has never been anything but respectful. He wants to win things, not fight relegation. Same as every player. His agent will push him to the biggest club possible.

We've let ourselves get into an awful situation. No doubt we assured him a year ago that we would let him go this summer. Not only that but if he does stay, he'll know sticking it out just an extra year will see him go for free and earn gigantic wages at his next club, and bigger clubs than Spurs will be in for him then. No doubt we'll compromise and sell for 45m - 20m of which will go straight back to Spurs for Winks lol
