Spurs fan here. To the sensible and what looks like the vast majority of you, fair play. You are wishing the guy well and no bitterness whatsoever from you. I signed up, as was interested in our incoming signing Richarlison and wanted to discuss his strengths, weaknesses etc, but I’ll have to say there is 1 or 2 really bitter users on here, notably the Spurs hater ( strange to hate us more than Liverpool)

. He has signed for Spurs because we are a CL club, with a magnificent stadium and coached by one of the best managers in Europe. We have been in the champions league for 3 seasons in 5. We are constantly in Europe. We regularly fight for a top 4. We have made plenty of major finals, but unfortunately haven’t got over the line, but this is all irrelevant. Wether you like to admit it or not, Richarlison signing for Spurs is a big step up. You take the piss out of our trophy spell. Our last was 2008. Yours was 1995. Can understand you being disappointed, but the bitterness and belittling of our club when let’s be fair, you could only dream of what we have currently.

This isn’t to the vast majority of you by the way. I just read a few comments whilst signing in and felt the need to respond
I will assume this post will rile a lot of people up (quick check - yep, it has riled people up).

If you want to discuss Richy's strengths and weaknesses, then maybe just do that, without the uneccessary head patting you chose to engage in? You even comment that it is only 1 or 2, not the majority, so why is the majority of your post aimed at "the 1 or 2"?

So, let's try and start again. What do you want to know about his strengths and weaknesses?

He has to be sold for FF obligations only Spurs have bid for him so there he goes ,once again poor management of our club finances has lost us another player. We became a selling club the day we sold a young Mr Rooney.
I only hope our new owners can run the club as a successful business & clear out the incompetent fools who have put us in this mess otherwise this trend will continue until we have no assets left too sell & then ????

We did very well under moyes, it hasn’t all been bad. Look at Spurs what have they won in that time? Maybe a league cup not much else.
We really didn't.

We were a consistent top half finisher after a couple of dodgy early seasons.

People seem to think we qualified for Europe year on year and we seriously challenged.

We didn't. Our record against the top clubs was utterly atrocious.

Moyes was extremely cautious in the transfer market because he knew that if he blew a signing he'd need to sell another player to be funded due to our owner/chairman/boss blue leader. That caution paid off off because his hits were far more frequent than his misses.

Sadly, that same caution spread into his approach to games. He has no balls when it's on the line. He's never won a trophy in his career and never will.

By the way, your username. Fan Since 88? How's that for crap timing!!!

Thank you for the update, but I think what a lot of us feel is he could do a lot better than Spurs and he deserves a bigger 'step up'.
But that's the problem.

It seems 10-15 managers of other top clubs around Europe don't think he deserves a bigger step up.

We put him on a pedestal because he's a proper heart-on-sleeve-run-himself-into-the-ground street fighting footballer. And yeah, he's good at footy too.

He's going to Spurs because:

  • It's clearly a big step up right now
  • Nobody else has lodged a serious offer
I'd have liked to have held on until at least after the WC but it seems the catastrophic way we have been run has dictated the sale.

Well in, Everton.

What an absolute bin fire of a club.

He was leaving anyway actually.

Im surprised one of the Euro big boys aren’t in for him… Brazilian CF.. ticks a lot of the boxes they would jump for … he would score a lot more goals in those leagues than he does in England… unless they cash strapped they missing a trick here

Of course, it's not a surprise that Richarlison is leaving, but I can't remember the last time I was this emotional about losing a player. We were in a massive mess last season, and he was one of the few players who never hid and who really stepped up, it'll be really hard to replace that attitude and spirit, never mind the goals.

I'll be gutted seeing him play for another club.

I think we were a bit more than just "top half finishers" mate. From memory his most common finishing position was 5th.

He could do a job in lots of places. But the truth is his goal record from open play is very ho hum and he is likely a rotation option at most Champions League clubs on output. Guts is what gets him in the team but they don't usually pay 50 mill for that.

I love him with us. Not arsed once he has gone. Hope spurs capitulate and conte leaves by Christmas to be honest. They are signing lots of expensive players, on top of what they already have. There will be some frustrated players, and imo, richie will be one.

Stay with us and he starts for Brazil at WC. Go to Spurs and im not sure he will as I don't think he will get the game time he wants. (Unless Son does leave).

Hope he gets a massive ban for the flare incident (of *checks fixtures*, 11 games). He should have held out for a European club and not gone to another PL club.

I'll miss his spirit and workrate more than anything. He isn't a ruthless finisher and he missed more easy chances than goals he scored last season. Yes, he was influential in the run-in, but what about the one-on-ones he fluffed or free headers he inexplicably put wide? Compare him to Son and Kane and he's by far the weakest of the three in front of goal.

He won't be their penalty taker and won't be starting every week unless Son is sold. Can imagine him to score about 10 this season.

But that's Spurs. Even though I don't want them, Bergwijn or Moura could come to us and be our standout strikers alongside DCL because our squad is so poor. With Richi, Bissouma, Perisic, Spurs have no excuses now for a crack not just at the top four, but at the title.

No blame at all for him wanting to leave, I'm disappointed for him that it's not the Barca he probably dreamed of as he'll likely not be able to secure a higher move after this, but joining Spurs from us, sadly, is a massive step up.

Good luck to him, and shame on the board once again.

Funny how the memory plays tricks on people.

Richy in a top team isn't in there for his goals/assists (they're a bonus), he's in there for his industry - whilst contributing 'some' end product.

Most top teams have that unsung player who doesn't grab the headlines but who raises the overall unit to a better level.

Think that's why he's preferred for Brazil, also thi k it's why Park played so often at united, why son played so often for spurs before he became as lethal as he is now.

More than his end product - which for a lw/cf is frankly nothing more than mid table it's the attitude and determination we will need to replace more thsn an average of 7 goals and about 3 assists a season which he has averaged over the past couple of seasons
