yet a top manager at a CL club has made him his number one target to spend big money on.

The same top manager with a notoriously bad transfer record, who paid £220m for Drinkwater, Batshuayi, Bakayoko, Zappacosta, Luiz and Morata while at Chelsea.

Conte spending £50m on you is generally not a good barometer for a good player.

One thing that we must keep in mind too is to not get caught up in the inevitable media narrative that we bought him for £50m and sold him for £50m + £10m add ons. This will no doubt be parroted because of the song that 'he only cost £50m', we bought him for £35m + add ons that were almost certainly not hit because he got less than 50 league goals for us, played less than 150 games, never played in Europe etc. I'm not sure of what they would've been but it's a safe bet that it would've been goals and achievements related, to which he wouldn't have reached. With Spurs it's probably the same with their add ons, he'll more than likely reach those though.

So yeah it's still not great of course but we've made at least a £15m profit on him, if not £25m, all while being in a terrible financial state. Don't let the media attempt to wind us up with their inevitable lies about it, it's bad enough already without that.
lol lol lol

Jesus 'kin wept.

Yep and 5 subs is gonna make it infinitely worse.

No club outside of the current top 6 will win the league in my lifetime. The door has been bolted shut.
Leicester did of course but that is a massive outlier and even that didn't matter in the end as the big boys just hoovered up their players. (Fair play to Vardy for staying).

Football is eating itself. On the plus side it's two extra subs for us to be let down by!

Big loss, amazed he’s gone Spurs tbh, thought he would attract offers from PSG / Barca / RM etc but hey ho.
Not sure he’s going to leave a bigger hole than anyone else who has been as productive and popular, Fellaini, Cahill, Jo etc.
Don’t want him go but have also said this whole crew have underperformed as a team so hopefully whoever fills that hole helps creates a team that is more than the sum of its parts.

I know the clubs been ran poorly but ultimately we are where we are because we've tried competing for the top and failed miserably.

I look at other clubs like Villa doing similiar and I can only see them being in a similiar situation to us in 2-3 years with the money they are throwing around just to finish midtable.

What you're seeing is FFP in all its glory - you either abide by it and stay in your lane like good little bhoys or you run the gauntlet and if it goes wrong we'll let the scab 6 vultures pick the bones off you.

Honestly losing interest in the whole thing - system is set up for that lot to remain unchallenged, add in 5 subs rule meaning they can stockpile even more quality on their benches I think I'll be finding a new past time the way football is heading.

@Saint Domingo

It’s exactly this type of behaviour that FFP encourages. You have a three year window to make the CL, if you don’t you’re pretty much screwed for the next three years and then 6 years later you end up in the exact same position you were if you’ve been lucky enough not to go down (which is pretty much where we will be in a season’s time)

As you said Villa are currently making a run for it, maybe Newcastle will too, Leicester had a go. It’s a complete closed shop. In the same period the clubs at the top are picking the bones out of you when it suits them and spending eye watering sums on whoever they want. There’s no FFP reckoning for United or Arsenal being poorly run during the same period. They just get another unlimited pot of money to start again with.

only 50 mill? too low
It is and it's not.

For us he is worth way more than that. To the rest of the footballing world it's probably about right.

The value shouldn't matter too much as long as we are clever and use the money to strengthen multiple areas in the team. You can't go out and then spend 20m of that on Harry Winks (who I don't even hate as a player but it's way too much).

We are screwed then.
