Richarlison

He has missed more games through injury since moving to Spurs than he has started. Buying him - and you know where Levy is involved it won't be cheap - because we hope his body will magically repair itself when he's happy is along the same, overly sentimental lines as signing Gibson/Cleverley/Schneiderlin/Walcott/Rooney/Delph because of the "winning mentality" they'll surely bring to the club, or signing Dele Alli because "there's a player in there somewhere".

And just because you choose to ignore the business side of the game, it doesn't alter the fact that every penny spent on Richarlison is unavailable to spend on other reinforcements who would, in all likelihood, be available more than he is to justify the outlay. It also doesn't alter the fact we'd almost certainly lose him for free at the end of his contract because his knackeredness/wages would make it impossible to flog him.

The love of the game comes from playing decent footy and winning. We have literally seen first-hand how signing knackered/crap expensive players with PL experience affects our ability to do those things, and the first thing you want to do under a new regime is the same stuff we've been doing?

There'll be other heroes mate.

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying we should definitely sign him. His recent injury record is worrying, there is no doubt about that.

However, if a deal is done I will sit here looking forward to and hoping that he does the job on the pitch. I would try to be more like the fan that I was when I was a kid and be excited for the signing, rather than worrying if there is enough left in the budget to sign x player(s).

Oh, I am not stupid enough to know that there will be other players. 35 years of watching football has shown me that they come and go. As an adult, I will just get on with my life, if he doesn't sign, but there is something about Richarlison that feeds into a naïve child like emotional connection with the players.
