Don't care about Birmingham*, it's Leeds I'm worried about!
* I do really, I got some ace cheese their once. Some blue crumbly thing.
My problem with the rioters isn't their cause, it's their victims. If they were leaving homes/personal property/local businesses alone and targeting corporate behemoths I'd be well with them.
Unfortunately mob rules and so not a lot of thinking is going on.
Hopefully Maccy Dees will get smashed though.
Ultimately law comes down to a complicit social contract between the public and the state. If everybody puts a brick through argos' window and loots the place, there aren't enough police/army what have you to do anything about it. So laws and how they are policed should always come about with the respect of the local community, otherwise you risk catalysing a situation from a flame into a furnace and a fight into all out war. But the truth about this disaffection is the lack of prospects, jobs and money in these areas.
So ring the alarm to the tory boys out there. The level of inequality which is pretty much unmatched since the days of feudal vassals cannot continue without england descending into civil war. (the richest 10% in England are now 100 times better off than the poorest)
Inequality is no hallmark of civilisation. Its a hallmark of a third world country, the venality of a select few, a lack of empathy and sapient authority on the part of the powerful, the strong and the corrupt. This is the destination that the road of greed leads us to. These are the results of cutting spending on the most vulnerable communities whilst giving corporation tax massive cuts and looking after the [Poor language removed] bankers that got us here in the first place. This is what happens when the youth of england are resigned to the scrap heap, to a life of welfare - and even that is being pulled out from under them.
This isn't a society anymore, its a darwinian experiment. Ghandi was once asked what do you think of Western Civilisation? And he said he thought it would be a good idea. Moving in the direction of equality is a step towards civilisation. But it wont happen.
Most of you are angry that these fires are burning. I'm fücking glad. Its about time this revolution started.
Apparently someone shot in Chapeltown, Leeds but nothing to do with the riots.
Pretty standard stuff over there to be honest.
hardly a revolution...
Rome wasn't built in a day, but it did burn in a night. I wonder if the olympic venues are insured.
