Just been out, it said on the news that it was all over in Hackney. I can report the contrary. A car is overturned at the end of my street and is on fire. There are 3 factions of people - the public, the rioters and the police.

Most of the people here understand the plight of the many disaffected youths here - though its scant consolation for anyone who gets their property destroyed or their businesses looted (nearly all the shops are shut).

Hardly anyone has any respect for the police round here, for good reason.
