The reaction to Martinez post last Saturday didn't relate to that one game in isolation though David....and you know it.

It was culmination of whole host of disappointing results of a similar nature this season that tipped people last week.

A win on Saturday isn't going to suddenly reverse people's opinions on what they think Martinez is getting wrong at Everton.

You appear to think that a win would leave people with egg on their face though, quite why is beyond me.
"A whole host of games" - about 5. In no game this season have we been outclassed apart from City at home in the PL. In the vast majority of all our games we've been the better tam. No question about that. We just need steel added.

The reaction to that West Ham defeat though was nauseating. We'd won 5 of the last 6 games up to that game and there was nothing whatsoever that suggested any need for a reaction of that nature. It was and continues to be embarrassing. Yes, it was yet another home defeat and that's what stung. But the reaction was massively OTT and cant be condoned.

As said: we win on Saturday that'll be 6 games in the last 8 won and another SF final appearance secured - and at Wembley.

That, believe you me, will pipe it down loads. And rightly so.

The defeat on Saturday made it 5 league defeats out of the last 7 at home.

Swansea, West Brom, Stoke, Leicester and West Ham.

Embarrassing indeed.

If he wins the cup he gets time next season but I think there would still need to be definite improvements seen in terms of the aspects that have been weak this year.

Yeah, like i said in my post, winning the cup would be great but if the same fundamental issues that exist now continue to exist which see's us dropping points in the league it doesn't really justify keeping a manager.

It's the overall picture. Same as people can talk about the goals scored, or performances in cups which they use to justify poor league placing, i think continued poor league performance next season would justify sacking a manager even if he did win a cup.

It would be thanks for everything Roberto, you'll go down in Everton history but we need to do better, and we think we have a superior replacement available.

He had other options mate.

Baines, Barry, heck even Del if it had to be like for like.

Niasse didn't do the job he was tasked with and yes again that's not RM's fault. But to throw on another forward, when we're done to 10men with our home form etc etc was silly mate.

Personally, I didn't think Lennon was fading, but if he was/had the hamstring issue (which I think is a face-saving cover more than anything tbh) then the like for like sub was Del.

Has the pace to keep W.Ham full backs at bay like Lennon was doing etc.

Baines or Barry would have been the sensible choices.

It isn't hindsight either. I, and many others at the time, knew that sub was a mistake.

It opened the door for our capitulation, which is another story all together and goes back to your point/Martinez's inability to really seem to be able to fix things for a sustained period of time in terms of the defence.
He made the key one at Ht and brought Stones off for Besic. That put us two up and a pen to see the game over the line. Pen get's missed and the defence goes AWOL three times in 15 minutes.

Sorry mate, but the key call was at HT and gave us easy enough to win the game regardless of any poor other substitution. You cant blame a manager for player cowardice on the pitch.

Also, for the record, he needs to win the cup outright at this point to save him a job, and even then he'd barely deserve another three months in charge if the league results don't improve drastically right from the outset of next season.

League home form is THE problem/issue...but it cant be allowed to obscure great away form, open play scoring and two good cup runs.

It's just one (highly emotive, granted) dimension to our season.
