Don't understand the emphasis on the weekends game.

It's one game. Bigger picture is considerably more important.

We should win at the weekend. We're at home, we should win.

It should be that way, but Wembley visits are Wembley visits and getting there can build a lot of bridges.

"A whole host of games" - about 5. In no game this season have we been outclassed apart from City at home in the PL. In the vast majority of all our games we've been the better tam. No question about that. We just need steel added.

The reaction to that West Ham defeat though was nauseating. We'd won 5 of the last 6 games up to that game and there was nothing whatsoever that suggested any need for a reaction of that nature. It was and continues to be embarrassing. Yes, it was yet another home defeat and that's what stung. But the reaction was massively OTT and cant be condoned.

As said: we win on Saturday that'll be 6 games in the last 8 won and another SF final appearance secured - and at Wembley.

That, believe you me, will pipe it down loads. And rightly so.

Best side in most of our games? Wouldn't say so. City dominated us home and away in the league and away in the cup. United battered us at Goodison, Arsenal beat us with ease at the Emirates, Spurs were far superior at Goodison. Leicester beat us with ease at Goodison, Stoke were better than us as well. Some of the other games we've dropped points in such as Watford and Liverpool at home we played OK in fits and starts. We even got outplayed at St James' park by a terrible side before snatching a win.

It is a complete myth that we've been the better side in the majority of our games. There are some that we were undoubtedly (Norwich and Palace for example) but not most games. If we had been we wouldn't be 12th, simple as that.

Some Evertonians are looking at a bigger picture than the last 6 games which include 3 cup games v poor sides two of which aren't even in our league.

Martinez is currently replicating the likes of Sherwood, Rodgers, McCleish, Pulis etc. Masking huge underachievement in the league with a couple of decent cup runs. He needs to win the cup this year to salvage any achievement for this season. Everton winning games that don't matter when the pressure is off has been seen loads of times before. Martinez needs to separate himself from the dross by winning the games that matter at Everton. His current win count in big games that matter? Depending how you classify a big game somewhere between 0 and 2. Not really the sign of a good manager.

In Bobby's own words, it could kickstart our season.

Kickstart our season, in March.

March.

He really gives the media knives to throw back at him. Why cant he just accept an uncomfortable silence and make those
journos work for a living instead of the constant waffle ....

My viewpoint on Martinez won't change regardless of this one result. We could win 3-0 and still limp out in the semi final.

I think why people are placing emphasis on this Chelsea game is that for the many who are wavering, the FA Cup remains the only way Martinez will win their confidence back, and if we crash out there will be mass calls for him to go at the end of the season from the vast majority of fans who are sick of him.

Personally, I couldn't give a toss. Martinez wins the cup, he buys himself time (three months or so probably until the new honeymoon period runs out), but one fluke cup win in the midst of a turgid season would suggest nothing to me beyond that the guy is lucky in the one off games but generally clueless at getting consistent results were it matters - and that's always the league for me.

Why are you all still arguing with someone who said there's no difference between 6th and 12th?

We've reached the point surely where you just chuckle at the obvious lunacy going on!

Thought he said finishing 12th is better than 5th cos there is no EL? With this way of thinking, this club shall not even enter any local cup competition because the prize money is even smaller than EL by winning it and you have to play extra matches as well.

Not logical at all is it?

Pretty sure it was 6th, but either way it was plain old wummery obviously. Logic right out the window.

Oh, and here is some optimism.

We beat the worst Chelsea side in a very long time at Goodison and here is the pot;

Reading, Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Man Utd, Watford, West Ham

Unless we met Arsenal on their day, we should win it.

We're better than the rest.

"He needs to win the cup" i'm reading,
Some people need their heads shaken, we haven't won a friggin trophy for over 20 years but Bobby "needs to win the cup" unblievable.

Sure we said kinda the same thing the year Wigan dicked us.
