Great win.Chelsea out on their arses and the kopite scum fuming. And i think it's also fair to say that this cup run has earned Bobby another season in charge. We'll need to see a lot better in the league next season though.A mediocre Liverpool team 6 points in front of us like.
Please stop it right now
It's fair to say no such thing!
Wins against Bournemouth and Chelsea doesn't make the thoughts of having another season of waffle and being in a "Phenomenal moment" with "Outstanding signs" bearable at all. We should be allowed to want to win the cup without feeling we have to be punished for it afterwards.

If the West Ham game proves to be the making of Bobby, I'm all for him staying. I always been aware of his many positives, just that stubborness and totally naive approach to quite a few games we were cruising in but ended screwing up big time made me doubt his ability. He absolutely got it spot on today from the first whistle til the very last.

Alright lads, you know I'm not one for gossip and I've backed Martinez a lot. I've also backed Stones, who this also applies to and could go in this thread, a lot.

Anyway, here goes:

After the game went to meet a mate and we've ended up out with a group of his mates and, thusly, their friends. All a bit older than us and one of them happens to be the head of fitness and conditioning at Barnsley.

We were talking in general about stuff but he didn't know I was an Evertonian - I hadn't brought it up and I'd never met him before. Seems a really decent bloke anyway.

He said that Stones had been back over to Barnsley a few weeks back, to see a few of the players etc.

It was around the end/middle of Feb when he was still out injured.

Obviously, his teammates/staff had quizzed him about a move etc., as they would naturally.

Stones told them that he wasn't dead-set on moving but it looked likely to happen and he had been taking Spanish lessons for the last few months as Barcelona had been in contact with both the club and his agent, and his family etc. thought it would be wise to get ahead in case anything panned out. Nothing else other than that.

He also said that after the Swansea game there had been a large feeling of unrest between the manager and some of the players and that there was a general feeling in the camp that they weren't enjoying it. Several players were voicing their concerns and that Martinez wasn't playing to their strengths either individually or as a team.

However, he said that things had improved since then with the results (so I'm guessing this visit was before WBA game). Said that the team was still not 100% sold on RM though and although behind him were sick of him and the other coaches not listening to their suggestions for training more on the defensive side.

He claimed that it's only after if something like not being able to defend a set-piece costs Everton in a game, then that's the only time they will work on it in training. He said they aren't drilled in any way defensively other than that, and if something works defensively in one game then it isn't practiced or drilled again until that same mistake re-occurs in a game.

He said that the players appreciate it but have themselves pointed out to management that they need more practice at certain times only to be told they aren't getting it.

He did say that the squad on the whole are behind the manager and know they have underachieved, but feel he is sometimes limiting them in how much they can achieve, and there's a general feeling that he may be restricting the younger players by being (on occasion) so stubborn with his style and they feel they have to take it into their own hands.

As I said, I'm not one for gossip and everybody knows my staunch support of RM.

I just thought I'd put this one here for extra info.

I must stress that the bloke I spoke to did not know I was an Evertonian at the time and it just came up in general conversation regarding the Euros and whether Stones would go and how he came through as a kid etc. He also said that this visit from Stones to Barnsley was around mid-February, so it may have changed since then re the situation with players/manager

Bombs away !

Bombs away !

Obviously mate it's paraphrasing what i was told but, having met Stones myself a few years back when he was at Barnsley, he seemed a smart, decent enough lad.

Now I don't think it's anything to beat RM with though it is a worry I admit.

From what the lad told me Stones said there was no animosity towards RM, but the feeling of frustration when he did things that the players believe he has done time and time again and hasn't looked to rectify.

So game management does not apply today. We boxed toe to toe with one of the in form teams and done them. Thought results were more important than performance and that's what we did against one of Europe better teams. Think its a case of winning ugly is not good enough for you as losing valiantly is not
T'was my point, Banno mate.

It applies, and I said like 2 words after that that everything was spot on today...
