Run up 61 points in a season other than that one and see how many CL spots it would have got...I'll save you the bother: none.

They not giving Leicester the trophy this year because in another season that points tally wouldn't have won? No. Absolutely no point setting your prem points record and finishing fifth if 4th are 7 points ahead of you. Off the top of my head as well as actually coming fourth Moyes got close to that points gap from fourth as well. Relatively, that 13/14 season was worse than 04/05 and similar to others. Martinez benefitted from there being a lot of dross in the league that we beat, dross that got thrashed even worse by 4 teams above us. For goodness sake Rodgers mounted a title challenge with a team that couldn't defend, it was not a season for quality sides in the prem.

I like him and his style, but there really wont be any hiding place for him if we're not comfortably in the top half all next season

@davek, the reason for bringing this quote to your attention is that 12 months ago you conceded "there won't be any hiding place for him" if he did exactly what he has done throughout this season.

However consistently in this thread you have called everyone who brought Martinez under the very scrutiny you yourself anticipated if he performed as he has.

If it was acceptable 12 months ago to expect scrutiny and criticism based on performance criteria not met, what has changed to make it (and the consequences, ie the calling for a change of manager) unacceptable now?

The implication of your quote was clear, yet 12 months on your stance has changed and you berate those that hold the view you expressed.

I know you are a dedicated blue and usually very consistent in your stance. What's changed here?

I won't take it as truth but I will take what people at the match/pubs after the match and every blue I know say as truth and 90% of them I have spoke to want him gone

Humans are emotional creatures.

I am firmly in the out category though. Not because I want him gone, but I feel it's the only way we have a chance to improve the atmosphere at the club. Strange times in this new world of instant gratification.

No, I do not for one. Players want to play at the highest level which means upper Pl levels, Europa and CL, A trophy like the FA or League is just a one off has no prestige to attract players. Tell you what ask Wigan.

For starters, if you win the FA Cup you then qualify for Europe.
Wigan were relegated to the championship for their season in europe. Hardly enticing.

Plus you're making out that all players who want to play champions league GET to play CL footy. They can't.

That's where EL, as you've mentioned, would help us. So would being FA Cup winners.

Would it get us the players who already have offers from CL clubs? Absolutely not. Are there plenty of players it would get us, absolutely.

Wigan were relegated the season before they were in Europe weren't they. Relegated the same year they won the cup I thought

I've said it on many occasions I'm saying out, but if he shows in the final games of the season a bit of defensive nouce and wins the FA cup I will give him more time. If we keep getting served up the same turgid football and defensive ineptness even with an FA cup win then see you later thanks for the cup but you don't learn from your mistakes

I still dont understand it, like. But you are persistent. So well done.

Thank you appreciated, dreading the humble pie you are going to serve me when/if/maybe/perhaps never, we are in the champions league under Martinez. Be sweet really as I hope he can do it but doubt that he can
