Roberto Martinez discussion

Stats from here http://www.whoscored.com/Regions/25...amStatistics/England-Premier-League-2015-2016 suggest we're equally effective in defence as in attack this season (8th best rating in the PL for both).

I don't think there's an awful lot wrong in defence. I think we can tighten up and cut out silly individual mistakes, but it's not a systemic problem. We possibly believe other PL teams are much better organised, but they're not.

The current state of the Premier League is quite poor at the moment as well in my opinion. The standard has dropped across the board, but we still have high standards, which is fine, but perhaps a little too high in context? We could definitely improve, don't get me wrong.

We need a few weeks with the same defence. I am worried about big Andy Carroll heading goals at us next week however. But let's get FM and Stones used to playing each other. Stones and Coleman distinctly below par today unfortunately. However our play in the final third was exceptional

Typified by the team of the first few months of the season, Leicester. They've conceded 19 goals and yet are firmly planted in the CL spots.

A very first season performance from Berto today.

Subs were spot on and at the right time, set up to go for the throat and played at our pace.

Genuinely, when we play at our pace there's not many teams that can live with us.

Not going to blame him for individual defensive errors from players with quality. Still leading us to the promised land this fella.

Thought Kone and Del provided the creativity you need to make this system work. No surprise for me that our best performances this season have come when Kone has started. He is performing the role Pienaar did in Martinez's first season which is unlocking Lukaku and Barkley.

That's horrible. That means we need to find a replacement for him in one or two years as well.

Best part of this thread is people coming in saying "Oh dear, look at the state of this thread. Can we have some reasoned debate please?" and then proceeding to encourage posts suggesting pro-Martinez posters must be part of a weird religious organisation and generally do anything but have reasoned debate.

I personally am in a weird religious organisation, but my membership of the Cult of Davek has absolutely nothing to do with my views on Martinez.

Except I didn't say that at all as you well know. If you read it again you will see what I said was that it is cultist to be intolerant of any criticism, not to love Martinez. But I suppose you already knew that anyway, and were twisting what I said to have a go back.

I was commenting on the liking (not necessarily writing) of posts about pro-Martinez "zealots" and other similar comments, which, while in the true spirit of this thread, are as silly (and damaging to reasoned debate) as anything an overly pro-Martinez poster could say.
