Roberto Martinez discussion

Harsh that mate imo. He wasn't playing last year up until Christmas time and tbh I reckon there was a few Everton fans who would have felt the same.

He's mentioned this season that he thinks Kone is a better option and surely he's allowed to be able to change opinion?

We win 6-2 and there's people saying we were lucky to win and Martinez is rubbish at defence and we'd have been beaten 7-6 against any other PL team yada yada yada.

Has there ever been a better example of the prejudice peddled by the haters against this manager? They really should be back in their caves trying to get a fire going after a stupendous result like that. It's frightening that they feel they can remain in plain sight spinning against the manager at this moment.

No change here.

Yeah we really took it to a decent Chelsea side at the beginning of last season, showed them didn't we

3-6 wasn't it

The attack is sometimes decent under Martinez, it's all his fault.
The defence is poor under Martinez, it's all his fault.

But as I keep saying he's not going anywhere, you've got your hearts desire Davo, so wind back the vitriolic fumefest

Agreed with everything you said up to the last bit.

I've said all along what we need is 'The Goldilocks Option'...as in not too much Moyes and not too much Martinez...and then it must be said in my desire to to see somebody else in the dugout who is 'less Martinez' allowed myself to go totally Martinez out.
But you can't have 'Martinez Lite' without cutting out The 'Martinez with extra Phenomenal'

As soon as the Delegated Person takes charge of the Defending some attacking options will either have to be sacrificed or some players will have to be replaced.

Off the top of my head one of Stones or Funes Mori will go, this Delegated Person will not have TWO ball playing fanny about merchants playing at the back.
Barkley will go
The space infront of both fullbacks, whoever they are will have to be protected better

you can see where this is heading, before we know it we'll be back with a bad meff Moyes clone playing KITAP1

But none of this will happen, next weeks game will be a nailed on 'After the Lord Mayors Show' and all the Circular Martinez arguments will start... to no avail

He's not going anywhere
You're saying that as if someone's gonna come in and just make everyone defend, while not speaking a word to Martinez. If such a person is ever to come, surely, using simple logic, they'd sit down with THE MANAGER and actually work towards improving the whole team, you know, together?

No you said that

Mikey postulated the 'Delegated Person'

I enlarged on it, of course the DP is not going to come in over Martinez's head, not with our board anyway.
But by the very nature of the job description he is going to change the way Martinez does things and who he has doing them.
But don't worry like I told Davek he's not going anywhere soon, so you too have your hearts desire...unless you're a plotter, what are you ?plotter or zealot, I've lost count.
#goldilocksoption.

Oh right, I said it, but you still implied it with your own post.

Just the exact same way Jones helps Martinez with attacking, a person with good defensive knowledge can come in and help with that, without apparently killing off everything Martinez has built with the attack. In fact, that's the same reason many managers across Europe have more than one designated assistant, or use their coaches more actively, so that you can have many opinions on how to improve certain aspects of play. I agree we need someone to help out Boberto defensively, but to say someone's going to come in and scythe everything Martinez wants from the team just because he wants to build a better defence is pretty silly, don't you think?

Yes you did and no I didn't.

right lets get this straight;
Mikey postulated the Idea
I enlarged upon it somewhat, the jist being, if you tinker with the defence to make it more solid it will impact the way Martinez wants to play, which will not go down well with Martinez and if you tinker with it too much we will end up back at square 1 with KITAP1... again not what Martinez is about ( or me for that matter )
you put your own spin on what you thought I said

Do you think that Martinez should ( and what is more unlikely WILL ) listen to any defensive minded staff and moderate the keeganesque we will score one or two or three on a good day more than you

hence the short version 'The Goldilocks Option'...he must be out there, the hard part is finding him.

I'm done for now I'm off to the rawk thread for a laugh.

Christ people going nuts about the defence.

It was crap today but we're missing our captain, best CB and leader/organiser of defence. The defence has been by and large very, very good for most of the season considering we've been able to play with the same back four about twice.

It's never going to be our strong point but he can make it more than good enough.

IMO the defence as a whole isnt an issue, take the 2 goals today, the first is down to Stones not attacking the ball and the second is down to Mori getting out jumped by Fletcher.

Coaching would help, but im pretty sure John Stones has been told to attack the ball and not to let the attacker get a toe in first since the age of 8.

Its players switching off for brief seconds and we normally get punished. Given his age Stones will learn, Mori will also, its a tough league hes just joined.

I gotta admit I was a tad worried at 2-2, but we had a spring in our step today and we played a team with Wes Brown in, focus on the postitives today, Kone, Geri and Rom ran the show, Gaz Baz was like a young Zidane in the hole, Kev came on and looked a threat, the only thing missing was a 10 minute cameo from the godlike Besic, soon my Bosnian Prince, soon.
