Roberto Martinez discussion

Haters gonna hate you of all should know that mate
I really dont want to labour the point, tbh. I know people are sick and tired of the in-fighting. But finding more fault than good in a 6-2 win really is the biggest monument to the unthinking, position-taking prejudice that this manager has had to put up with from a group of die hard opponents who cant stand the thought that we've moved on from the one dimensional hoofball "excitement" they hanker for the return of.

....but you're going to continue with the in-fighting anyway.

the 2nd bit is a terrible attempt at wumming tbf. your standards are slipping.

As I said to @Mikey_Fitzgerald yesterday, if you can't be happy after a 6-2 win you never will be.

I am happy.

Doesn't mean we can't discuss the finer points of the game though does it really? were you not a little worried in the first 19 minutes up until we scored? Come out that sloppy against better sides and we could easily be 2-0 down, surely worth discussing on an Everton forum without then taking that debate and calling people haters? :D

To be fair, you seem to do little else but that on here.

I was bloody worried. And utterly lived when they equalised. But then we won 6-2 so couldn't care less about anything else.

At 2-2 I thought we'd spewed it tbh, but we played some lovely football after that and squashed them.

However, I think the points about the defensive frailties are valid. We conceded 2 and but for the width of the post that would have been 4 (as Howard was beaten by both).

I agree with Mikey that he should bring in a defensive coach to work with the backline. There's work to be done there as we're as slack as a bag of bolts at times.

It doesn't take away from the result, but there's no harm in being pragmatic about the entire game.

Apparently Moyes and Martinez's styles are similar though mate? Negative. Toothless.

So i heard in here recently, anyway.

6-2.....6-2

I'm with Dave on this one.. Nothing to moan about this week. 6-2 is awesome and nearly as good as Moyes did against them that time (sorry Dave, couldn't resist)

Doesn't mean Kone hasn't been a shocking waste of money for 2 years, or last season is suddenly spectacular or anything written in the past was wrong, unless they wrote we were gonna get beat today.. but 6-2 is what we should see after that game.. That is where we are right now, just beat a team 6-2 with the potential for a great run ahead of us and more big scorelines before us. Some of the sexiest football i've seen from us in a long, long time tbf and defense aside, a complete performance.

I've yet to write Martinez off in the past, but i've come close before, sucker for goals though 'me, this has bought him months of redemption for bad games (by months I mean next bad game, but it may take months)

I don't know, our backline was Stones, Mori, Oviedo/Galloway and Coleman. The injuries we have been hit with would affect the consistency of any defence, and I reckon Jags is a bigger loss than a lot of people on her would care to admit.

I'm not really bothered about the defence as long as he keeps picking four legitimate goal threats in front of the back six and goalkeeper.

oh so it's not one of those "release clauses" were it's set in stone? Still will be worried tbh, it's his boyhood club. Do they have the same manager who never played him though?
Barcelona's buyback option is for €9m at the end of this season and €12m the next. But a) Deulofeu would have to agree to the move which he's unlikely to do unless he has a chance of first team action after his spell on the bench at Sevilla b) their current manager doesn't like him for similar reasons to Emery, lack of tracking back, whilst Gerrard clearly enjoys working with a more relaxed Martinez c) their transfer ban ends soon so they can buy more established players and/or promote others from their academy that better suit Enrique - whilst he is still there doubt there will be any interest on either side.

Cheers @bicycleheader for the info on Munir, only seem him a couple of times myself.
Links are so strong ? We loaned Delboy and got him on the cheap because they got a buy back clause. Were are these so called 'strong links' coming from ?
Reporters in both the UK and Spain have regularly commented that Martinez and Barcelona seem to have a very amicable relationship. Fair point that to date the only tangible proof of that is Deulofeu but at the time his loan was seen as a major coup for Roberto and personally would like to see that link expanded on.
