Following Martinez's appointment last June, chairman Bill Kenwright revealed that the Spaniard had promised to win qualification to the Champions League.
Speaking before the Palace game, Martinez said: "It was a little bit too early to say we would be challenging because I hadn't even told my players about the vision.
"I expected to be the one to slowly unfold the plans, not just give it on the first day, and my worry was how the group would react. It would have helped if he'd allowed me to say it to the players first.
"I didn't say anything, because I have great respect for the chairman. When you meet him you realise his life is Everton and he has a genuine love for the football club."

Because he dropped the dynamic midfielder and made us infinitely less effective.

He got it wrong, simple as. It happens, but it's a sickener that he chose tonight to do so.

Palace play 10 behinf the ball and break with pace on the counter Martinez should of realised this and played a patient build up game even if it ended a 1-1 worse case scenario would of still got us 4th but he went for the goal difference and tried to blow palace out the water and it massively backfired

I applaud him for going for it. But, in retrospect, he did overegg the pudding with the Del/McG/Kev starting line up.

I think Bobby did all the hard thing by getting us 66 points but got it all wrong today. This also shows us our CM option is very week.
