Roberto Martinez discussion

Totally irrelevant really but why is our second half of the season more difficult than anyone else's considering everyone has to play all 19 teams once more again??
At first sight, our away games look tougher from now on than they have done so far.
We still have away games at Leicester, Chelsea, Man U , Man City, RS for instance.

Martinez has it far easier than Moyes did, he actually has a transfer budget and is operating within a far more level playing field. Arguing that having a substantial transfer budget in a more even league is a disadvantage for Martinez is a really, really poor excuse, right up there with whinging about having to play half our games against top half clubs, who we have failed to win a single game against this season.
What are you talking about Moyes for? He's no benchmark for anyone. He wasn't a success (and had over a decade to be one), he played dour football, then when he left he spat in the club's face.

He's an abomination.

I'm talking about Moyes because Evertonians like yourself had greater expectations under his stewardship than you do under Martinez, despite the fact that Moyes was operating under far more difficult conditions. Not only that, but the excuses for our regression under Martinez are becoming more and more bizarre with each passing day.

I don't see us finishing above 7th with Martinez in charge

His first season was a mixture of luck and having a Moyes drilled defence
IMO it wasn't luck, but it was completely reliant on Moyes' defense mixed with Martinez attack. Right now our attack is one of the best in the league but our defense is one of the worst.

Martinez just doesn't do defending. He didn't bother with it at Wigan and he's ignored it here so that he can concentrate on some eye-catching and highly effective attacking football.
Unfortunately, that is why we are in 11th place at the halfway stage of the season, with a potentially more difficult second half to come.

I just cannot understand how people think that football that neglects the need to defend is good football. It's BAD football, which results in poor league finishes. You would think the fact that we have failed to beat a top half team this season would be a pretty obvious indicator of this.

Ha Ha Ha.

Regression? The first time anyone at this club has seen an actual football team at work for over a decade and you call it regression.

Speechless.

Yawn. You're either a parody that talks nonsense, or you are so stupid that you think crazy, gung-ho attacking football that neglects a team's need to defend constitutes good football. It really doesn't, and only a moron who enjoys finishing in the bottom half would think it does.

Am I the only one who is upset with Martinez simply because he won't replace Howard?

It's a glaring issue that he just doesn't seem to address.

Howard is extremely old now and past his best, even the times Robles has come in and done well - it's always straight back to Howard.

We need a new keeper, we need to focus on our defensive aspects and we need to get better at set pieces.

Outside of that, Martinez is still my preferred manager but it gets harder to love him, when none of those points are being addressed.

Spot on !

I never understand the Moyes dissing. We were perennial relegation fodder with average to poor football. High wages to ageing 'stars' like Alexandersson. Moyes did great business like Rooney, Fellaini, Distin for Lescott and made good on people like Roswell etc and bought Stones. We re-emerged a viable, creditable club, with CL, Europa x 2 FA cup final and Semi Final. His defense- first approach was frustrating but the respect shown to him in this forum is mind-boggling.

Martinez has wasted a golden Prem chance through a fundamental lack of emphasis and understanding of defence. I like the attacking football and hope it yields a cup if not, all he can honestly be credited for is swapping Fellaini for Rom.
