Roberto Martinez discussion

You've took the wrong angle. You probably should have went with including cup games (as Moyes' record includes) - I'd suspect his overall record could fall even below Moyes then.

Anyway, the answer is pretty obvious.

I find it's useful to segment vs previous season for time relevancy.

This time next season I'll be looking at current+last.

I'll slot in the overall, as I did here - but it's useful to break it out.

You're only as good as your last game, stretching that ideology - your last season.

If we finish 11th again this season, and, next, and next, and next - will you still be harping on about his first season?

I do get what you're saying. It is important to note through dissecting the whole time he's been here that the win rate has fallen off. However, I'd say anyone being fair would acknowledge that the win rate this season (unlike the previous one) was a self-inflicted wound in that we've been ahead in about 7 of the 9 draws and just not finished the job off.

The devil's in the detail here. Stats take you so far, but you know that if you were recounting Everton's season to another person not au fait with the contours of the 20 games played so far you'd be telling them that it isn't enough wins, but we deserved much more.

The progress is here for all to see. And his first season is important now, less because of the points tally, and more because it underlines the manager is capable of piling up a lot of wins in this division.

More importantly, patience is even less to the modern footballer and particularly those with 'immense potential'

Bottom half league finishes isn't going to keep them here, 5th place - achieved with the same squad minus Distin we have today, could have done - evident by Lukaku signing permanently.

I don't think the basic fact of modern football - that players generally don't stay long and will also go for more money or more chance at winning titles - should be allowed pressure us into losing our patience with a new manager who is only 2.5 seasons into his time here and is changing things from a manager that controlled every aspect for 11 years.

I don't think we are that type of club, and I wont be that type of fan.

The caveat is always that it gets really bad and relegation looms or other unforeseen issues, but in general no. I believe the above.

He is starting to make Rodgers look almost bearable with his cringeworthy soundbites.

I'm all for bulling people up a bit, but we are 11th in the lague and don't win many football matches for christs sake!

No mate, He said he would rather concentrate on qualifying for the CL than the cups. Agree or not, but at least see what he is saying.

I see what he means, but he must have more of an idea just what this seasons means to those players. He must know if we don't get CL they will more than likely leave. He could have made the point without throwing the bit about keeping the players in. I'm not using it to have a go at him, it just gives me a bit more insight to his thinking.

Ever since he has come here he has talked nothing but rubbish, soon as he came out with that "ill get your in the Champions League nonsense" he hasn't looked back.
