Roberto Martinez discussion

Tonight shown that it's his stubbornness that's holding him back, Robles and Besic should be in the side every week to add that defensive structure to the team but Howard and Kone will still keep their places.

Like @nsno-chris says I do think he goes gung ho too much against the sides outside the top 6 that can bite us on the arse.

For me when fit it has to be:

Robles

Coleman Stones Jagielka Baines

Mccarthy Barry Besic

Deloufou Barkley

Lukaku

If everyone's fit that should be the team certainly the midfield as Mccarthy and Besics work rate will be vital against city away in 3 weeks.

no one on the left?

Besic played like a terrier tonight. Osman a few tidy passes, except for the hospital ball to baines, but a strange choice when lennon and mirallas on the bench at the time. Robles was well protected but the defence pushed up too far for their goal. Just hope the injuries to lukaku, coleman and cleverley arent long term

Looking at the performance tonight, with just a couple of blindingly obvious personnel changes we've needed since day one, this season is an opportunity lost

yep, that's how i feel, or possibly could be the catalyst to really kick on this season. so much more shape to us the last couple of games, whilst not losing an awful amount in attack. city didn't break us down in the whole game, just a counter attack goal where we had no players in defence.

tonight was the sign hopefully of the future everton, some of the nutmegs in an around the opposition box and the way we calmly held onto the ball near the end with a man down was a joy to watch. We have so many exciting youngsters.

The thing which stood out the most was when osman would get the ball. He's been a very good servant to the club, but when he would get the ball it was an extra two touches from everyone else, who were all (bar mirallas) bought by martinez. This is osman, arguably one of our tidiest players under moyes.

Amazing calm performance in a high pressure match against a top team.
