Roberto Martinez discussion

I see the difference in our defending, but is that to the detriment of our attacking? It will be argued that we have to be more pragmatic against the better teams. Fair enough. Maybe we should wait for Swansea and Newcastle at home back to back at the end of the month. But even 2 wins by then will probably mean 8 wins in 24 this season, which pulls up a familiar Martinez stat 1 in 3. Let's hope we do to city what we did tonight in 2 weeks. But even Stoke who started the season with 5 defeats in 5 and Liverpool who were so bad they sacked their manager are comfortably ahead of us.
Aye, Swansea and Newcastle will be good tests.

He is a young manager, he has things that he clearly needs to learn but personally like so many of the other things about his style (good recruitment, likable personality, youth policy and playing approach) am willing to give him a lot more leeway than I would have with for instance Rodgers. Especially if we win silverware.

I think he's very similar to Rodgers, Talks rubbish in the media, comes across a nice guy, very cheesey, has a philosophy on football he is yet to prove he is capable of implementing, gives youth a chance (Sterling, Ibe and Flannigan)

Oh come on, I know you've already established your "camp" but try and look at it objectively

I am looking at it objectively. 1 win in 8 games is a terrible statistic and is the reason why we're jostling for position with West Brom.

Definite improvements against Spurs and City but to say I'm dubious about this being translated into wins against lesser teams is an understatement. For whatever reason we struggle to win football matches, that's a huge problem when you're looking to climb the table.

The last time we beat a team outside of the bottom 3 was September, how grim is that?

I thought Rodgers a prize tit, always claiming it was his tactical genius when things went well yet blaming his players when they didn't and wasn't impressed by his scouting either but each to his own!

Martinez doesn't need to blame our players as when things go wrong our fans do it for him.

We went through a 'easy run of games and only managed to beat the League's bottom 3. To me he can't find the balance. Certainly not on the regular, I hope I'm proved wrong but 18 wins in 59 is abysmal, that has been and will continue to be my stance until he improves.

Yes, you've said you want him sacked very recently and used that stat to justify it countless times. Your position is well known.

However, if we beat Chelsea, draw at City and beat Swansea, we'll be top half, on good form stretching back over a good number of games and in a cup final.

That stat will still be "abysmal". It probably wouldn't be that much better even if go on to win the cup and stay comfortably top half by the end of February. I would expect you to still want him sacked, based on your previous posting. To change your mind you'd have to admit that that stat you've been posting for months wasn't the best way to judge a manager.

What does that mean? Are you criticising me for sticking to my guns? Would you prefer I be fickle?
Have your guns been saying all year that a 3 point gap is comfortable? If that was ever addressed in regards any club but ours I'd guess you wouldn't be calling it comfortable. I wouldn't rather you do anything simply offering my view in relation to yours.

I thin you'd be hard pressed to find anyone other than ian that agrees that 3 points is a comfortable gap when literally we could be above them after the weekend. Would in that hypothetical scenario our goal difference be a comfortable lead? Objective sir you are not.

I have said on numerous occasions wins the cup, he can do what he wants in the league, in fact if he wins the cup I'll celebrate like everyone and enjoy it on here, then probably leave the forum for a while.

On the last point, I'm not sure I understand. How should I judge the manager?

same people who say that will in the same breath state Chelsea are right behind us - despite it being 4 points

The 3 points that I mentioned was clearly relative to what type of season and changes the RS have been through.

Fine, I retract the comfortable remark. It has no baring on the poor season we're having.
