Roberto Martinez discussion

Let's start with the fact you think that was a completely imbalanced display in regards attack v defense. Then we can move on to very "obviously qualified" comfortable nature of a 3 point gap to add on to our nine goal superior goal difference.
Ok for arguments sake. I'll give you both them points and let's hope he proves his form wrong by going on to Catch a terrible Liverpool side and proving he can find a balance that helps us start winning games on the regular, back to back league wins would be nice, i mentioned earlier Sawnsea and Newcastle are a great opportunity to do that....But if WBA can draw at Chelsea we can win.

It's certainly not about waiting for the opposition to die of boredom. But points are paramount. As you say, both style and winning is desirable. Does it have to be a choice between the two?
It shouldn't be. If it is I take winning every day of the week and 3 times on a Sunday.

Even when you've been caught you have to qualify your concession. This tete a tete has been fun sir. Look forward to celebrating the win with you this weekend.

I think we have every chance of beating them and will be massively disappointed if we lose.

I agree it's a great opportunity to beat them. No doubting that.

I have said on numerous occasions wins the cup, he can do what he wants in the league, in fact if he wins the cup I'll celebrate like everyone and enjoy it on here, then probably leave the forum for a while.

On the last point, I'm not sure I understand. How should I judge the manager?

So you definitely can see a situation in which he has an abysmal stat associated with him and you are still fine with him being at the club. Fine.

Is that situation still possible and realistic? Clearly, yes. Today we've just shown we have the ability under this manager to do exactly what's required in the 2nd leg to win a round that will be significantly harder than the final.

So why sack him?

Got his tactics pretty much spot on tonight. City huffed and puffed a lot but, because we were solid defensively and Howard had a good game, they didn't cause us all that many problems.

A few people there tonight were moaning about the fact that Mirallas didn't get on the pitch, but, for once, I think that was the right call. Bringing Kone on was a bit weird though.

9/10 for the manager tonight.

I didn't say sack him.

I said 18 wins in 59 games isn't good enough and he needs to do better.

I have been criticised for only criticising him after defeats, so for balance I thought I'd offer a bit of analysis tonight after a decent result, yet that also isn't acceptable?

Bringing Kone on was a bit weird though.

Was trying to give Lukaku some freedom. Didn't quite work out, but was a decent idea I thought.

I think he's doing a good job at the moment. It'll all be for nothing if we don't start making that move towards a very attainable fourth spot and/or make the cup final, but the last few weeks have been encouraging. Pretty much coinciding with Besic's arrival, really.

Once Kone came on even though I am not entirely sure what position he was supposed to be playing, I thought Lukaku had more space and with a bit of luck/better touch may have scored.

That seems to be his main attribute....
Loved that he spun around as though he didn't know where to go when he came on but all he needed to do was take one step and he was in position(if he was asked to play rw).

Why only do 2 subs? He has done that a lot, we have been in games when we have been in need of another set of fresh legs and he has still only done 2, we have the strongest bench we have had for ages but he dosen't seem to use it to its full potential.

We had to finish the game last week with 10 men cause he used all 3 subs then got an injury.

I don't expect to see him make 3 unforced subs any time soon following that.

I think he's very similar to Rodgers, Talks rubbish in the media, comes across a nice guy, very cheesey, has a philosophy on football he is yet to prove he is capable of implementing, gives youth a chance (Sterling, Ibe and Flannigan)
Rodgers could hardly talk and never seemed like a nice guy. I'll grant you the other points
