Roberto Martinez discussion

One thing I can blame Martinez for though is freezing out Mirallas for most of the season and insisting on playing Kone when all he has done is be a big problem to our shape and attacking build up play.

Mirallas did things today Kone could never do, lets hope Martinez gives him a run now.

He's been injured. He's had a persistent off and on groin injury

I understand the frustration, but "El Coco" doesn't tell two of his most experienced players to play like toddlers when we're holding a two goal lead. He doesn't control the flight of the ball from a deflection. He doesn't not raise that offside flag. Previously game management has been a concern for me but it wasn't today. We were robbed pure and simple.
It was a little for me in that Deulofeu went for attack rather than keeping possesion and Stones, even if playing as RB, should be a little more defensive at that stage of a tough game - it could be the young players making mistakes but it could just as easily be Martinez's general approach.

Thing is I like that attacking style most of the time like early on in the season or in the first half of a game, just think that we'd be better with a touch more caution in the dying moments of a game in mid January.

Ah I see. It's just a selective analysis then

Fair enough.

:coffee:

Dave, does that not apply to the consideration that RM's failing to address the same things here that he failed to address at WIGAN, with a vastly superior squad of players at his disposal too?

As you say, often mate, it's all about building.

And learning.

I predict a lot will turn on the manager if we get knocked out in the second leg.

Do others feel the need for him to win at least 9 games in the second half of the season should be the thing his job hangs on?

If we only win another 6 as we have in the first half of the season, should he be fired then?
