Roberto Martinez discussion

Yes, the City fans were so good that thousands of them didn't even turn up to the game a week last Wednesday.
Transport problems? I got there 20 minutes before kick-off having travelled 35 miles to get there and still stopping off in the city centre for a meal and drinks.
City fans have turned into spoilt brats in the last few seasons.

Sorry, off topic there.

Martinez is rubbish.

Did you not hear their rendition of 'we'll sing on our own?'

Beaten on and off the pitch today and that was all the fault of Martinez for injuring Besic and Miralles.
Martinez buys the players, he picks the team, he is responsible for the tactics, the players get paid fortunes to carry out the managers instructions and the people who come in for criticism is the people who turn up and spend their hard earned money to see the team do well. Fans have a right to vent their anger, they pay for that right week in week out. They pay the wages of the manager and players, they are entitled to show displeasure when these people don't earn the money they are getting paid.

Just putting to one side who could replace him and set up a team properly - why is he good mate?

The very fact that he has assembled a squad of this quality counts in his favour, as does the fact that 80-90% of our problems stem from the goalkeeper and his loyalty to him. Sort that out and we would (and do, and have) look a far better side; but of course its up to him to fix it and if he doesn't then he should really be asked to leave.

Spot-on. Those fans were there long before the players - they'll be there long after them players are finished.

That's what a director of football does.

how does not recruiting a replacement keeper count in his favour? Even if Howard was performing ok, he is nearing late 30s so where is the succession planning? - poor management I'm afraid.

Ideals and philosophy are all well and good, but they don't put points on the board or move you up the table, and they certainly don't keep the players we have on the books right now in an Everton shirt. The idea of football Martinez wants to implement is admirable and breath-taking when it works, we've seen that. But ultimately it will be for naught if it doesn't start to consistently win us games. I know the players are young, I know the injuries are many, but even with those factors in mind, being 12th with one game left in the league in January simply isn't good enough. I support Martinez to the hilt, I think he will do better and bring the team around the bend, but it needs to start happening soon.

Martinez has to improve. The team has to improve. And we need to win some games. End of

We don't have a director of football, and my criticism of him is mainly because of the goalkeeper situation so I don't get how you think that counted in his favour.

why are you guys fuming at martinez about today? apart from picking howard of course. He picked the two wingers like they all wanted, 2 major players got injured whilst others aren't fit enough.

he didn't instruct stones to hold onto the ball too long and he didn't instruct to mess around like a fanny. he didn't instruct nobody to get on the end of about 5 deula crosses. I understand the fume at the position and all, but the players have to take responsibility as well - the team he put out were vastly superior yet didn't do the job.

he seemed to set us up with a bit more defence minded, especially to start, letting swansea have the ball and then the players cocked it all up.

there's so many things to moan at the moment, let's be honest. i don't think changing the manager would have as big of an effect as some do.
