Roberto Martinez discussion

Out of the teams in the top half of the PL at the moment, none have had the consistency in all competitions that Everton have had. None.

No medals are handed out for that (yet - we may go on to win the FA Cup), but it underlines the strong season we've had overall.

Sorry if that contradicts your cynicism, but there it is.

Spot on that. Martinez's style and charisma attract better players and people who want to invest in the club. He's dragged the club into the 21st century and we're on the cusp of being seen as a forward thinking big time team again.

If you've been wrong, there's nothing to do other than to be man enough to admit it and move on.

Too many have painted themselves into a ridiculous corner on Martinez and see themselves as losing face if they ever admit they were wrong. They're like that Japanese soldier living in a Pacific Island jungle 20 years after WWII refusing to believe the war with the Americans was over. It's time for these lads on here to come out of the undergrowth, throw their weapons down and grab a coke and cheeseburger.

Err wut? We are 10th mate. WTF are you on about?

Apparently winning the league cup, being fourth, last 16 FA Cup and on the verge of last 8 of CL for one club is nowhere near as consistent a performance as semi final, tenth and last 16 FA cup for another.

Proving that a return to form for Everton is not rocket science

Play your best LM (Mirallas)
Play a balanced right side (Coleman / Lennon)
Drop your tosh goalkeeper for a reasonable one

It all goes wrong for us when Martinez goes on one of his 'look at me' ego trips. Case in point - easily in command last night, starts playing 3 at the back with Baines just running anywhere, oh look a goal goes in

Not a difficult game is it. Now all he has to do is take the next step - drop McCarthy - and we will be even better

Being without McCarthy has worked well in the past, eh mate?

Wait what? None? What consistency have Everton shown in the Premiership?

City have already won one trophy and are still in the Champions League, plus they're challenging for the Premiership.

Arsenal and Spurs are challenging for the league are still in Europe and/or the FA Cup.

The rs and Chelsea are still above us and both still in Europe (Chelsea will in the FA Cup).

Personally I'd rather be where Leicester are than be 10th and still in the FA Cup.
Well Everton aren't in the CL or EL so we cant compare apples with pears.

Domestically we are top half of the PL and have the best record in both cup competitions of any club.

They are facts.

How did that work for him at Wigan? Did his style and charisma attract those players and investment then? Anyone?

Don't sell Everton so short. Truth is Martinez needs Everton a lot more than Everton need Martinez.

Wigan aren't Everton. Another case of comparing apples and pears.

Look, Martinez's buying acumen and development of young star players and the type of attractive footy he has us playing is something others want to be associated with. There's no other explanation for the upturn in interest in us. Yes, BK now feels compelled to sell, but the other side of things is that you have to have something positive to sell, and Martinez's input has made the difference.

Still waiting for his other cup thread to reopen.
