Roberto Martinez discussion

See martinez is not a top manager, and will never be one.

What he does better than most is implement a self sufficient youth system which allows players who are good enough to make the step up. Plus he has a good business sense to sign players who are value for money (luakaku aside) so he isnt spending lots of money on players who flop.

Now i fully back martinez, even when we falter like sunday for example. Not because i think the sun shines out his arse but i want this 5 year plan to take effect. It as only been 18 months and already we have besic, garbutt, browning, stones, barkley all around or in the first team. Would moyes have had that? not a chance. If we go down with him or break the ceiling, or neither, i m on for the ride.

And if anyone can win us a trophy then roberto can.

Daft comment. He's 41 and has already won one of the most difficult domestic trophies there is, and currently manages a top 6 side in the best league in the world.

Alex Ferguson didn't win a trophy in a proper league until he was 52 years old. He went three years before winning anything at United.

Ancelotti didn't win a proper trophy until he was 43.

Wenger won Ligue 1 aged 38 but it wasn't until he was 48 that he became really well known and revered.

Paisley was 55 when he first took over at Liverpool.

Martinez has decades left in management and has already been very successful. A man with such dedication to the game and such obvious intelligence will only improve.

I Just find us unbelievably slow to counter attack. We get into there final third so quickly but when there we just seem to slow right down and allow the other side to get back into position. that's my biggest issue with how we play.

I know we played some very nice counter attacking football on occasions but in general not as good.

I think that if we are setup as a counter attacking side we can apply it rather effectively. just when we are setup to be more possession based we have such trouble changing tempo.

Well thought out common sense replies with facts that blow the Morons Who Think They Know Everything out of their Negative Malaise has no place here Pal.

you are only as good as the quality in your squad as a Manager. He/we blew it in the summer. Not enough quality coming in to take us to the next step. In fact we may have gone backwards with not replacing quality like Deulofeu...

Don't call folks a bellwiff
The bit about the neg rep is inaccurate too btw.

Apart from that ... spot on.

No it's not coz i had an alert telling me he had removed 10 reputation points off me, could you please explain why all my alerts have been removed aswell, very strange indeed

The flavour of the month seems to have gone stale.

I'd say we need better fans than a better manager at this point.

There's so many points in this thread that are utterly bizarre, moronic or downright WUM that I don't know where to start. In fact, I'm not going to bother, as they wouldn't understand. I know we're all Evertonians here, but gee whiz it's hard to get on with some...

Give me Eto'o over Deulo any day.....Gerry was great to watch on occasion, but at the end of the day he didn't really create that much.

I actually think we have an extremely boss side. We just haven't clicked yet. Maybe Martinez's fault? I dunno, we will see.

Think about it:
CB - Jags is average, Stones is boss. but good enough pairing for any campaign
LB - As good as it gets (Baines)
RB - As good as it gets (Coleman)
CM Pairing - Right up there (Barry/Macca)
CAM - Right up there (albeit not consistent)(Barkely/Eto'o)
ST - Just below the best atm, but better than most (Lukaku)
Wings - We only have one boss winger (Mirallas)

So for me, we are only one boss player away from a perfect side. i.e. the wing. I don't think Deulo would change much. We needed Tadic IMO. But it is certainly the best team Everton have had in decades. We are just playing far below our standards
