Roberto Martinez discussion

Give me Eto'o over Deulo any day.....Gerry was great to watch on occasion, but at the end of the day he didn't really create that much.

I actually think we have an extremely boss side. We just haven't clicked yet. Maybe Martinez's fault? I dunno, we will see.

Think about it:
CB - Jags is average, Stones is boss. but good enough pairing for any campaign
LB - As good as it gets (Baines)
RB - As good as it gets (Coleman)
CM Pairing - Right up there (Barry/Macca)
CAM - Right up there (albeit not consistent)(Barkely/Eto'o)
ST - Just below the best atm, but better than most (Lukaku)
Wings - We only have one boss winger (Mirallas)

So for me, we are only one boss player away from a perfect side. i.e. the wing. I don't think Deulo would change much. We needed Tadic IMO. But it is certainly the best team Everton have had in decades. We are just playing far below our standards
I was thinking Deulofeu's quality compared to what we have on the wings at the moment as well.
In any case, I did say preseason we would slip this season to rise again next. Just damn frustrating to watch a season go by with stuttering results...

The flavour of the month seems to have gone stale.

I'd say we need better fans than a better manager at this point.
Fans are worried what is wrong with that.
They are not going to come on here and say everything is great and the manager is the best in the world when he is managing well below the standard he set last year.
Its all about opinions and that's why we all use the forum but what surprises me is the hate and venom by some for knocking Martinez.

Nope.

We're struggling performance wise because we're in two competitions and it takes time to adjust. We've actually only got 7 points less than we had at this point last year in the league, to go with that we've had to play 5 European games.

We will have to agree to disagree mate.
Last season he was fresh and he hit the ground running playing quick tempo gutsy football.
This season we are so slow and predictable.
We are not getting players in the box so have to come back.
He has clipped the wings of coleman and baines.
His is playing players out of position.
Pre season was a farce.
He has no plan b now teams are reading us.
We seem to go sideways and backwards so much mistakes are bound to happen.
He missed a trick in the transfer window not bringing in a centre half and keeper.
Why did he bother with atsu?
It is harder being in the Europa league as well I admit that and as it happens he has done a great job there but to me he is more suited to that style of football.

We drew our first three games and people were in meltdown.

'Clipping Coleman's wings', the lad has scored 3 goals already. He only scored 6 the whole of last season. It's just rubbish to suggest.

We did draw the first 3 games but after that we were superb and even in them first 3 games we played well.
Coleman was bombing down the right last season and taking people on but this season he has been concentrating more on his defending and when he does go foreward he is not going past people he is stopping and playing backwards and sideways

Daft comment. He's 41 and has already won one of the most difficult domestic trophies there is, and currently manages a top 6 side in the best league in the world.

Alex Ferguson didn't win a trophy in a proper league until he was 52 years old. He went three years before winning anything at United.

Ancelotti didn't win a proper trophy until he was 43.

Wenger won Ligue 1 aged 38 but it wasn't until he was 48 that he became really well known and revered.

Paisley was 55 when he first took over at Liverpool.

Martinez has decades left in management and has already been very successful. A man with such dedication to the game and such obvious intelligence will only improve.

the thing is this is Martinez's third high profile job and he has had the same result each time in the previous 2. He has lots of good ideas and tries to change the way the club works which is fantastic, but then ultimatly falls short through X/Y/Z. Perhaps this will change with us but we arent exactly going to flash the cash for him every year. He still needs to work on a budget which is harder to make that next step, unlike ferguson who once he built a team that could challenge up there he then was financially backed to maintain it.

Plus winning the F.A cup, is an achievement but so has Redknapp, Houlier / Mancini and none of them are considered top managers, average at best to be honest. the yard stick is not the one cup you have won

Stop chatting bubbles, Mancini average??? He has won 3 leagues in Italy I know of, Premier league and a few cups.

The French tit who managed Liverpool, he has probably won 10 titles as a manager.

I thought he bought McCarthy from a team in Scotland.
He did, at a very young age and developed him on, ala Galloway / Stones Henan type players for us.

Mancini won titles in italy when the two teams better than him were docked points and relegated! It would have been harder not to win the league when you could pick off any of their best players who weren't loyal to the cause as they also did. Not much of an achievement to do. and how many top players did he go and sign on his way to winning the league? Bought that title no question.

Houlier has not had real success. Yes he won all them trophies once but the sqaud was in a horrible state at the same time and he certainly couldnt be successful over a long period of time. that is bad management ala rodgers where you push for that one trophy and leave years of barren seasons due to player quality. Also where did he win these other leagues?

McCarthy McCarthur, Mcmanaman to name a few. They might not be wigan born and bred but they developed from a young age.

He paid about £2m for McCarthy and he never played for Wigans youth side and went straight into the first team, and McArthur was about 23 when he signed him.

McManaman was let go by Everton at the age of 16 and his formative football years weren't developed by Wigans youth system either, it would be interesting if you could name the other "few" though. But even if we accept him as a Wigan academy graduate one player hardly backs up your initial post of him being "better than most" in implementing a "self sufficent youth system" does it, Wigan or Swansea academies aren't the production lines you've tried to make out.

Won leagues with PSG and Lyon. Come on now, think about it. The likes of Mancini and Houllier have won more titles than 99.9% of the other managers out there and you call them average.

Think about it.
