Roberto Martinez discussion

His tactical nouse ends when the opposition changes shape and start pressing us. Agree that Coleman is dire at the moment, Miralles is a liability. but FFS you're 2-0 up with 10 men - You do not put another striker on! And I use the term striker loosely. You stop them getting at our full backs and whipping crosses in. You defend and fight like lions - you get dirty. What you don't do is think your Brazil and go all out for another goal.

And we would have been much more likely to score another goal with Lennon left on than Niasse anyway which makes that substitution even more puzzling

It just seems there always a reason why we should give him more time. We are in the FA Cup quarter final. Great. But that's as far as it goes.

I think Villa should have asked serious questions after last years FA Cup final because they were heading for disaster.

I will be made up if we win the FA Cup. But I can't see him improving upon our weaknesses. If we win the cup, will we learn to defend next season, become consistent, have good home form, challenge for the top four? I don't think so. Obviously you see something in the team that makes you think he will address his frailties.

But saying "he might win the fa cup" doesn't cut the mustard for me.

Exactly
He won the FA cup with Wigan but never managed to turn around the defensive problems which constantly dogged them and which we display now. Ultimately that caused their relegation

Losing so many games at home is not down to poor luck.
Conceding more goals at home than even the worst in the league is not down to poor luck.
It's down to pi55 poor management.
He's too stubborn and rigid with sticking blindly to his philosophy.
Sure we all want to see the footie of the first 70 minutes, but we also want to see wins and right now, I would not put money on when we'll get our next win.

Chin up mate. It will all come good next season.

Even factoring in some kind of silent support element I can't imagine Roberto has more than 20% of the supporters left behind him after today.

And everyone saying "sacking managers isn't what we do".... Everton was never this mediocre for this long under Moyes, they would have stretches of bad results for a few months but it would turn around right when the pressure was starting to build. This is almost two full seasons of underachievement, with a much more heavily invested-on squad.

(ps this isn't to start a Moyes vs. Martinez argument, just saying this is a situation the board has not faced in quite awhile)

With a new manager maybe.

Did you say that last season too ?
If you did, you got it all wrong didn't ya... cos it largely hasn't.
Granted we look much better this season than last going forward, but the managers ineptitude at game management is as stark if not starker than ever.

Haha what?

Not even kidding.

If you look at LVG career hes seen it and done it all hes also managed Ajax and Barca and if they could work together then i think he would be a good addition.

a bit left field but if you discount his disaster at Utd and dont put him near the team or transfers then hed definitely have the value add for us in many ways.

dont you agree?

Definitely more than the 20% of our fanbase have a bit of perspective. I'd wager it.

Nope. I actually said from the start he needs 3 seasons to move out the deadwood and get his players in.

after the first season i was elated but still said the same and at the start of this season said it was transitional and i would be happy with 8th.

Not surprised me at all mate

He's dead to me after today I'm afraid, this type of shenanigans has gone on since Arsenal at home last season and is a recurring theme, the players were fantastic for 70 odd minutes then someone again lost the plot.

This. Have tried to defend him and be positive but had enough now.

THIS. Had enough now. That Niasse sub was ridiculous. Had to park the bus with two banks of four like so many teams do so easily against us and what does he do??? They were loading strikers in the box and he should have put Barry on to defend with Ross out wide. Unbelievable. SEVEN home defeats against some absolute dross too. Four home wins as we enter March - lose Rom in the summer and we will be the next Sunderland N'castle, Villa. ( mind you that pen was a disgrace - never liked his stroke it in style as its a matter of time before he misses. Hammer them into the roof of the net!!!)

No.

Directors of football mainly deal with the transfers and contracts of players, so paying LVG over the top money for doing sweet FA would be absolutely stupid. Also if you consider him as a coach he'd be useless - his teams are not built on a strong defence either.

We need DEFENDING HELP, nothing to do with directors of football, and even less so with sodding LVG. If anything, Moyes as an assistant would make the world of a difference, if you want to think outside the box/planet. Both mine and your ridiculous propositions won't happen, however.
