Roberto Martinez discussion

Yep cut it by 20% pretty much each year.

I think RM was probably too ambitious but it showed with his first season here his style can work as long as there is a fundamental basis in defence and possibly more importantly - fitness. Our highly-touted fitness coach left at the end of 2013/14...

Do you have a link for this mate? Cos I looked it up the other day and their wage bill went up in his time there not down. I'm happy to admit if I'm wrong but according to their accounts there was no dramatic cut like people make out. If you could provide a link to your claim it'd at least put my mind at rest.

Funny you seem to post a lot but add very little to anything. In fact I'm hard pressed to actually remember you contributing anything to this thread apart from insults and wind ups. There are plenty of other threads in the ale house you can post in, perhaps have a look in there.

Congratulations on becoming a mod you little slithering snake.

Like you've never made a typo.

You must be a special type of biff to make the typo twice lid.

No, he's worked with these players for 3 years and we are still a shambles. Look at what Potch has done at Spurs. They are a much tighter unit. Potch teams always kill us coz Martinez can't adapt his tactics. This transfer kitty might be our last chance to break the top 4. It is too important to risk giving it to Bobby.

Or Soccer AM watching Pampers wearing little liar.

You misunderstand the question.

Your question

'outside of the PL wins of Leeds and Blackburn and Liverpool United City Arsenal and Chelsea, tell me how many PL managers have amassed the number of points RM piled up in that first season. I'm not even sure Spurs did it more than once.'

Liverpool never won the Pl any year but anyway I named more than a dozen teams that have finished in the top 6 with well over 72 points that didn't win the premier league and a lot didn't come close.

Now tell me how I misunderstood the question where are you going to move the goal posts to?

He's got you dancing for him here bra.

Back off.

People talk about giving Martinez money and time to get things right but quite clearly money is not the issue. It seems to me that defending bores him. It´s not sexy enough for him. Defending is about organisation, training drills, people taking responsibility, practising set-pieces. Martinez just likes the fun stuff. Go out and express yourself etc. He has largely the same defensive unit that he started with apart from Distin and I think it would not be unreasonable to say that defensively(and we are talking about defenders here) every one of them have gone backwards when in theory defenders get better with experience. That says to me that the problem is that they are not working on defensive organisation and drills in training or that the way Martinez sets up his teams leaves them too exposed. If that´s the case I see no reason why money should greatly improve the situation. After all they are all international defenders most of whom have been the subject of transfer interest from top clubs at one time or other.
Defending requires organisation, intensity, bloody mindedness, physicality and a hard edge (think John Terry) none of which we presently possess and as long as the manager continues to regard it as a slightly annoying secondary consideration we are unlikely to ever possess them. The manager refuses to take responsibility for defensive failings so why should the players. That´s what we need to change and unfortunately I don´t think Martinez is capable of changing.

Martinez for his faults plays to win. Not like that knife to a gunfight shithouse Moyes.

Whatever happens he'll be much more fondly remembered by me and I'll also give him the credit he deserves for bringing back the desire to see good football and giving the Young players a bit of freedom to play the right way.
Excellant summary of El Bob there. He is not perfect but he deserves respect for never waivering from his beliefs to appease hoof ball craving bed wetters. We are nearly there now I just hope he gets the time he deserves. If you are after instant results go for Big Sam or Pulis. Bobby has a long term vision for this club.
