also, he's done some very sound business for us in the transfer market, he's brought in some great young talent because he's a man who buys looking towards the future, our future, not just spending the money at will.

everyone said they'd accept 11th if we won the europa as well. we've arguably been the best team in that competition and are perfectly on track to winning it so far and are 11th in the league. Bit hypocritical if those people are asking for his head. it's his first season managing europe and league at the same time - he's still learning as well btw.

he aint anywhere near the sack and rightly so, i doubt we can do any better at this point. name me another manager who would be audacious enough to bring lukaku and eto'o here, for instance.

would you have said we needed to replace howard, jagielka, distin and barry after their performances last season? i said at the time we should have bought a new centre back when we sold duffy, but that would only have been a 4th/5th choice defender.
 

It's been poor so far, don't think we are that far away to be honest. Silly points dropped and key men playing poorly. It won't last forever, stuff Q.P.R and it should set us up nice for a good run over the Xmas period. We are short another wide player, not buying Tadic was a mistake as was not replacing Howard in goals.

It's all about fractions. We're not playing well and haven't been all season, but it's easily within our grasp to get back where we should be.

I just would have hoped that gfiven how good we were last year, people woulkd give him more than 15 league games before writing him off.

I remember when this kind of start happened every year and we still stuck with Moyes. And Moyes never had us playing as well as we did last year.

How long will we keep saying that dave.
If he changed the tactics and we had a right go at city and lost i would be a lot happier that he could see were we were going wrong.

After hull you have to wonder just how likely we are to stuff anyone at all

he can't have been expected to know they would be this bad based on last season. it would have been a bit of a rushed decision if he went out and bought replacements based on pre-season training. jagielka and howard were at the WC so he barely saw them before the window shut.

we also spent the majority of our budget on lukaku. i hope he'll rectify some of it in jan and then the rest in the summer, but sadly i can't see him replacing howard just yet.

i seriously think he needs to re-asses his stance on not needing to buy a new centre back though. all fine and dandy stones will be back, but jagielka has been just as poor as distin this season and he'll be next to stones.

DM needs to be addressed at some point soon because gibson can't be relied on as a backup to barry. leave him as 5th choice

of course, we'll still end up finishing above teams like newcastle, swansea and west ham and then the others we're competing with are suffering results comparable to ours this season.

I said in another thread that we have been rocked by the European schedule. We have too. And we need to find a way to adapt to playing those extra games and preparing for them ASAP.

I've argued for a while now that we put way too much energy into the EL and we needed to sensibly dose the effort there and be mindful of the PL preparation and performance. We've overachieved in Europe and underachieved in the PL.

Martinez has got that balance all wrong, but its a learning curve for him.

I know you dont want to hear it, but the only way forward is to remain patient and loyal to the manager who got us those points last season.

We always have a better 2nd half of the season. The players know that and that will happen again. No doubt in my mind.
