Roberto Martinez discussion

I said in another thread that we have been rocked by the European schedule. We have too. And we need to find a way to adapt to playing those extra games and preparing for them ASAP.

I've argued for a while now that we put way too much energy into the EL and we needed to sensibly dose the effort there and be mindful of the PL preparation and performance. We've overachieved in Europe and underachieved in the PL.

Martinez has got that balance all wrong, but its a learning curve for him.

I know you dont want to hear it, but the only way forward is to remain patient and loyal to the manager who got us those points last season.
I hear what your saying mate but i see more of the martinez that took wigan down than the martinez of last season at the moment.
I think his way of playing is more suited to european football and he has got to wake up to the fact that we are easy to play against.

It wasn't last season though...it was vey potent in this league.

What's changed is the punishing schedule; the methods are sound and need better application.

We always have a better 2nd half of the season. The players know that and that will happen again. No doubt in my mind.

our second half fixture list is much easier (already been to etihad, OT, WHL and Anfield), it must be noted. i'm all for reasonable argument but if people are calling for his head, that's laughable. mourinho would have struggled with the injuries we've had this season.

he can't have been expected to know they would be this bad based on last season. it would have been a bit of a rushed decision if he went out and bought replacements based on pre-season training. jagielka and howard were at the WC so he barely saw them before the window shut.

we also spent the majority of our budget on lukaku. i hope he'll rectify some of it in jan and then the rest in the summer, but sadly i can't see him replacing howard just yet.

i seriously think he needs to re-asses his stance on not needing to buy a new centre back though. all fine and dandy stones will be back, but jagielka has been just as poor as distin this season and he'll be next to stones.

DM needs to be addressed at some point soon because gibson can't be relied on as a backup to barry. leave him as 5th choice

Alex Ferguson would have spotted it based on last season. That's what good managers do. They see trends in players that aren't obvious. When someone is peaking, when a young player has potential, etc.

I'm not anti martinez but writing off that four of our older players have suddenly fallen apart as something that he couldn't have seen coming doesn't work for me.

By the looks of it, he made a mistake this summer by bringing back barry, selling duffy and not bringing in another cb and gk. Hopefully he can correct that mistake in january.

Spoiled by last season, I think.

This is a reality check.

Anyone who cant accept that we have the same talented manager we did last season now handling a competition he has no experience in and finding it tough going need to have a word.

That was last season though when he changed our dna.
This season even steve bruce found us out like everybody else is.

maybe not. he let that united squad turn stale and left it to moyes to sort. he was just such a good manager that he still won the league, he shouldn't have though. it's all based on hindsight tbh, not many on here would have said to avoid barry at all costs.

at the end of the day, we haven't spunked £150m on players that won't get us any better than 7th in the next 4/5 years, so let's lol at liverpool.

martinez has brought in players that is setting us up to be european regulars over the next decade. he's still a very young manager at the end of the day, of course he'll make mistakes.
