Does make me laugh this.

Pickford is 6 foot 1, it's not like he is Bernard. There are 4 inches difference between Pickford and Olsen, it really shouldn't make that much of a difference.
Mate it’s a game where millimetres make the difference I’m sure it has a bit of baring.

If that was the case then all the best goalkeepers ever would be giants and everyone would be after Costil Pantilimon or whoever.

I have Oblak down as the best in the world right now, he is barely an inch taller than Pickford.

Come to think of it he is the same height as our greatest ever goalkeeper but Southall still dominated his area in this was in the days were goalkeepers got whacked by opponents much more than they do now.

If you have two goalies of equal ability but one is taller then yeah you take the taller one for the additional benefit they can provide.

Pickford is not a poor goalkeeper because of his perceived lack of height. He is poor because his goalkeeping basics are generally pretty ropy.

Yeah good point not much difference in height between Pickford and oblak. It’s more down to position, reflexes and awareness, yet when you watch oblak in goal he just looks so imposing, and makes the goal look smaller. I agree he is the best in the world for me. Would love someone like him. Pickford is lacking confidence and he comes across like he isn’t but deep down he is. It would do him good to come out the starting 11 for a weeks however it’s only Olsen that could take his position really.

Yeah don’t get me wrong I hear ye ultimately it obviously down to the skill set of the keeper. But give that same keeper the advantage of a few more inches it probably would end up the difference in a couple of points in the season. But again yeah the skill set of the man comes before anything else.

He is the spitting image of Joe Hart when it comes to stopping low shots from distance. He hardly ever reaches them, and the reason is, he doesn’t move his feet first. He has this weird “flat” dive from wherever he’s stood. With a technique like that, inches DO matter.

PIckford can't be 6ft1 surely, he looks tiny! Maybe its just because keepers are generally taller so it feels like he's 5ft5.

Surely it's likely that if a keeper is taller then they have a longer arm reach as well? So it's not just purely a 'few inches' in it.

But it's not the inches that are the problem, it's the technique. If he had a better technique he would save them. A 5ft 11 keeper with a good technique can be world class, a 6ft 11 keeper with a bad one can't. He's not a bad keeper because of his size, he's just a bad keeper who isn't helped by it.

Looking at the way Burnley play, their style suits high crosses and they have some great aerial challengers like Wood and Tarkowski. For that reason, I would like to see Ancelotti instruct the defence to play a high line and ask Pickford to step forward more as a 'sweeper keeper'.

Burnley are very good at pushing defences back with long, direct passes over the top, and a high defensive line can be tough to hold under such pressure. In that sense, it may be better to drop and make the game a real physical battle, which is maybe want Burnley want. If so, Olsen would be the better choice as he is much taller than Pickford and has a better command of his area.

It will be interesting to see how Ancelotti lines up.

Always thought he was 5 feet 11........like Nev, but Nev had a football brain plus was stockier in build ......

The similarities are eerie & I suspect their careers will follow very very similar paths.

It's poor fundementals, bad temperament & concentration
