Roman Abramovich hands over ‘stewardship and care’ of Chelsea football club

You're using semantics to dance on the head of a pin.

There is no difference between Chelsea fans saying that there's an inconsistency between a government doing business with oligarchs while punishing them and you saying given that if Chelsea are to be punished then so too should other clubs funded by different monsters. Inconsistency is what they and you are pointing out.
I’m not pointing out any inconsistency. I’m indicating support for a potential direction of travel for fit and proper club ownership.

But your own semantics on my broader point could be regarded as distracting and manoeuvring away from the central point I’m making…which I think is absolutely valid.

Nope. My point isn’t whataboutery. Whataboutery is a non-sequitur moral equivalency that seeks to draw attention away from the issue in question while placing something else in its place.

I’m not seeking to do that. I’m making a wider point about club ownership that doesn’t stop with Chelsea when considering the state ownership of Newcastle (Yemen bombing human rights violators) and Man City (abstained on vote condemning Russian invasion).

I like the cut of your jib sir.

I do believe that we may have found someone worthy of engaging @davek in hours and hours of circular arguments, with neither budging an inch.

I‘m getting my head down now,
but fully expect you, to be engaged with him in the morning when I wake up.

Ps - When he calls you a Tory, a Neo Liberal or posts “ stick a fork in this fella “ you know you’ve won.

God speed.

Inappropriate Behaviour
Here mate.

Sportswashing is the practice of an individual, group, corporation, or nation-state using sport to improve their tarnished reputation, through hosting a sporting event, the purchase or sponsorship of sporting teams, or by participation in the sport itself. At nation-state level, sportswashing has been used to direct attention away from a poor human rights record and corruption scandals within government. While at the individual or corporate level sportswashing is used to cover up and direct attention away from said person's or company's vices, crimes, or scandals. Sportswashing has been called a form of whitewashing.

That should be the end of it back and forth now, after the video and this definition finally you should understand the term "sportswashing".

So basically what your club have been doing since Heysel then you sad sad kopite prick

Saudi regime executes 81 people in a single day.
So you're comparing a country exercising its capital punishment laws with a country that has illegally invaded a sovereign state and then proceeded to bomb innocent children and civilians?

Off Topic
Like they do in Yemen?

FFS mate, at least read a newspaper in preparation for these debates.
Saudi is bombing the Houthi terrorists in Yemen, which is backed by the West, including the UK and USA. Why would the UK sanction Saudi for intervening in a war that they themselves support?

Russia is indiscriminately targeting maternity hospitals, killing children, women and now even journalists. They even threaten invading even more countries and are basically threatening world peace. There's a big difference here, no?

There's always an excuse.

Think the paper should have allowed comments for this to be honest. The writer will essentially remain unchallenged and should be expected to defend his polemic against those who would like to challenge it I think. The Guardian does that quite a bit. Drops an inflammatory article like this and then protects the writer from riposte by removing the comments section

Genuine questions(waits for abuse)

How are Chelsea not being penalised from a "points deduction" perspective? I realise the other sanctions will hit them hard but I'm at a loss as to rationalise how the government are bending over backwards to protect the Club.

If it were us would we be treated the same?

Is it because prior to Ukraine all business was "legitimate" because that doesn't make any sense as the money and links to Putin were dirty prior to, as well as after?

I'm genuinely perplexed as to how this pans out for them?

If answered already please feel free to tell me to f off or point me in the right direction, the latter would be preferred ;);)
