2024/25 Roman Dixon

Chucking in a youngster before he is ready is Club In Crisis 101.

There are plenty of things to criticise Dyche over, but refusing to throw a kid into this massive pitfire isn't one of them.

This is not an environment to blood in a youngster right now. Patterson (with 75 or so senior apps) is one thing, Dixon is another. We would shatter his confidence before we even got an idea of whether he is a good long term option or not.
Maybe agree but sometimes an opportunity happens is why i think should have been kept ij for atleast the doncaster game aswell. To atleast get an idea what the lad is like and how would respond after the spurs game. Coleman could have come back in for bournemouth anyways. This cup game i would put him in because if myko is still out ill young will go to lb but could be back for the weekend. Garner needs to be player in cm so we dont have a rb is the best option for this game

People said the same about Rashford.

However, due to an injury crisis at United he got a chance and managed to elevate himself.

I believe many voted Dixon as motm and heavily praised him.

Sometimes players are superior when in different high pressure environments and out of their comfort zone.

I'm rather amazed you also wouldnt use O'Brien over Keane or have Iroegbunam who has been a shining light this season.
I’m confused AF lol

Are you suggesting Ashley Young is ready? And O’Brien is 24 so what on earth are you on about?

A recipe for disaster? 🤣
We're unable to hold on to 2 goal leads and we're shipping 3 goals a game as an average, the disaster is already out there on the pitch.
Roman would give me a lot more confidence than Seamus, Young,,Paterson or Garner.
But worry ye not, that isn't going to happen.

O’Brien was playing on loan at Swindon 2 years ago, left Palace for buttons.

He had an alright season at Lyon, he’s a prospect. Yes he is 23, wasnt Seamus 22/23 when he broke into our team playing right wing because he wasn’t ready?!

Expectations on these kids are waaaaaay too high is my point. They are no better than the players we have there (who are woeful admittedly) except with the added bonus we could destroy their morale and long term development.

My point is we should NOT be in a position where Dixon, O’Brien, Iroegbhunam are being relied on to drag us out of the mire. It’s entirely unrealistic and unfair on them. Stinks of a club in full crisis. Very similar thing happened at Villa in their relegation year and how many of those kids became established premier league stars?

I get people don’t want to see Young, Keane but the kids are no better. The Rashford shout is properly mental, he was incredibly highly rated at United when he broke through. Yes timing was perfect and he took his opportunity but comparing Dixon to him is madness.

Why is it ok to play a 39 year old in a crucial 6 pointer?
Say what you like about him he’s been there and done it. It’s not fifa or football manager, ability to manage situations like that come with age.

I don’t rate Young whatsoever at this point by the way, but you’ve obviously not watched Dixon play bar the cameos in pre season and against Spurs.

He’s not an unbelievable talent or anything, he was quite highly rated a few years back pre injuries but he’s behind on his development technically and positionally at this point. A competent club would have him on loan in league one or bottom of the championship and have signed a starting right back.

You’re expecting way way too much of the kid (s).

Hate to blow a hole in your argument but O’Brien spent a year playing week in week out in France and before you call it a dog and duck league, Jarrod spent a year in Holland before he became the second coming of Franco barese and every whoppers answer to why Dyche should be given more time.

Good enough = old enough.

If our youth team is that bad then the entire department and scouting team should be punted asap and start again, no point in having them on the books if they aren’t ready or good enough to move towards the first team. Ain’t great for PSR either.

I’d rather a novice, unprepared Dixon any Day of the week over young and absolutely sick to death of this “premier league” nonsense from dyche. With that logic, the 3000 players at Chelsea wouldn’t get a game

The thing is also Van Gaal was always a manager that gave young players a chance throughout the career.

Many world class players debuted under him (not that Rashford is one). Alaba, Kluivert and Iniesta to name a few.

You're spot on mate. You can't buy that age and experience. The sort of know how that allows us to manage situations like being 2-0 up into a comfortable victory or when to chest a ball down on the halfway line surrounded by Brighton players.

I’m expecting him to be better than the 39 year old cripple we currently have stinking the gaff out and getting sent off all the time. That’s not expecting “way too much”, the bar is extremely low.

This is the Dixon thread, I'm talking about him not anyone else.
As for destroying his confidence, he'll be pulling his hair out sitting on the bench while Seamus and Young are either embarrassing themselves, getting injured or getting sent off, take your pick.
I have seen enough of him to know he's worth another punt in front of the old guard.

The kid is nowhere near ready.

The fact there’s people crying out for him to play is an indictment of just how bad things are. Ask anyone who’s watched him a few times in the u21s their opinion - he needs a loan.

Playing Dixon, Iroegbhunam, O’Brien etc. is a recipe for disaster. Does nobody remember when Villa went down with half a team of kids who weren’t ready and half a team of overpaid nobodies?

We’re on that path it seems.

He is NOWHERE near ready.
I don’t care if he’s ready. I care that he’s a better defensive option than the 80 year olds and the midfielder we keep putting there instead. I also care that he’ll improve with experience whereas the others will continue to get worse. Ashley young is in as good of physical condition as he’ll be all season and these are the performances he’s giving us. Ready or not, Dixon is a better option than the alternatives, and he showed that the one chance he actually got.

Are you Alan Hansen by any chance.
I've never seen such negativity towards youngsters since erm......Dyche.
Class of 92 mate, a perfect example of what youth can do.
The main thing we're lacking down our flanks defensively is pace, technical ability is failing us at the rate of 3 goals per game.
