2024/25 Roman Dixon

Are you Alan Hansen by any chance.
I've never seen such negativity towards youngsters since erm......Dyche.
Class of 92 mate, a perfect example of what youth can do.
The main thing we're lacking down our flanks defensively is pace, technical ability is failing us at the rate of 3 goals per game.
No listen I love youth getting the chance, was crying out for Branthwaite, Davies in the day, Barkley. Even Ledson and Liam Walsh I think should have got more of a go.

Just saying from what I’ve seen Dixon isn’t ready. He wouldn’t be ready the league below, might not even be league two yet but hey that’s my opinion.

Appreciate the frustration and why people want him to get a go (the alternatives are woeful). Just saying it shouldn’t be like this.

The alternatives are woeful, there you said it yourself, at the moment Dixon imo is likely our best alternative.
It is still unbelievable we actually gave Young another contract, you reap what you sow.
You cannot convince me that it's unwise to throw Dixon in and tomorrow night would be an ideal opportunity.

For some context Aston Villa went down in 2015 with a 20 year old Jack Grealish only getting 10 games. He was (and is) a generational talent.

But, a player that inexperienced and that raw was deemed not ready to star ahead of Charles Nzogbia for example. I’m not mental here, go back through a lot of teams fighting relegation - there won’t be many youth players breaking through. It’s not the right climate to be bedding them in at all, but here we are.

I honestly don’t think half of the people in this thread have seen him play….

He’s a talented kid, but he wouldn’t look out of place in league one probably right now.

Iroegbhunam is probably top championship standard, O’Brien maybe the same.

They may well have to play but them being ready is another story.

Yer i agree just because there young dosent by default mean they are good does it

Yeah let’s just stick with what we know, maybe Keane and Young will get better as the season goes on. Sod the untested youth! I mean we’re on a pretty good run, let’s not feck this up!
The last big prospect we had who came into the team in circumstances like this was Tom Davies, and he was rated far, far higher than Dixon is.

He’d trained with England seniors even and was our best talent for years. How did that one play out?!

It might end up as needs must but it’s the worst set of circumstances you can throw kids into.

The kid is nowhere near ready.

The fact there’s people crying out for him to play is an indictment of just how bad things are. Ask anyone who’s watched him a few times in the u21s their opinion - he needs a loan.

Playing Dixon, Iroegbhunam, O’Brien etc. is a recipe for disaster. Does nobody remember when Villa went down with half a team of kids who weren’t ready and half a team of overpaid nobodies?

We’re on that path it seems.

He is NOWHERE near ready.
He did play a game and was not shown up.

O'brien is not a kid. He's older than branthwaite. There is enough experience in the team to balance the others.
In case you havent noticed. 0 points from 12 and conceded 13 goals in the process is as close as you can get to recipe for disaster.

Experience wise of course he is, he was playing for Swindon two years ago. He’s had one experience of top flight football in France and looked fairly good (he didn’t stand out like Branthwaite).

He’s barely played more games than Seamus had played when he first broke into our team.

Not saying that tried and tested is better by the way (they’ve been abysmal) but I’m not an advocate of throwing kids under the bus because of our horrendous recruitment and squad building.
