2024/25 Roman Dixon

I wasn't even aware he got motm and as you say it was a low bar to reach on the day.

The point is however that arguably he was the best of a bad bunch and certainly not outclassed.

I think Sean Dyche will keep his job, I think we may end up mid table.

However, I think it may be this ultra conservative management style which may prevent SD from getting a long term contract.
He tired a bit near the end, but he at least looked like a Right Back ....

Hopefully we get to see the lad tonight, though with both full back areas depleted I wouldn't mind a switch to 3 at the back.

O’Brien was playing on loan at Swindon 2 years ago, left Palace for buttons.

He had an alright season at Lyon, he’s a prospect. Yes he is 23, wasnt Seamus 22/23 when he broke into our team playing right wing because he wasn’t ready?!

Expectations on these kids are waaaaaay too high is my point. They are no better than the players we have there (who are woeful admittedly) except with the added bonus we could destroy their morale and long term development.

My point is we should NOT be in a position where Dixon, O’Brien, Iroegbhunam are being relied on to drag us out of the mire. It’s entirely unrealistic and unfair on them. Stinks of a club in full crisis. Very similar thing happened at Villa in their relegation year and how many of those kids became established premier league stars?

I get people don’t want to see Young, Keane but the kids are no better. The Rashford shout is properly mental, he was incredibly highly rated at United when he broke through. Yes timing was perfect and he took his opportunity but comparing Dixon to him is madness.
Branthwaite left us to go on loan to Holland 2 seasons ago, with a bit of a question mark over his head after a negative loan to Blackburn & some questionable performances for us (Wolves & Brentford).

Is a season at Lyon pretty similar to a season at PSV?

Plenty of youngsters have been brought straight in to Premier League sides where they look at actual ability rather than 'have they played in the Premier League 400 times?'

I understand that this lad isn't currently a world class potential like Rooney etc, but in this case, he only needs a modicum of ability to improve upon the absolute eye bleach we've currently got starting at Full Back. I'd actually give any youth player a go over what is currently starting/finishing games in those positions...

Say what you like about him he’s been there and done it. It’s not fifa or football manager, ability to manage situations like that come with age.

I don’t rate Young whatsoever at this point by the way, but you’ve obviously not watched Dixon play bar the cameos in pre season and against Spurs.

He’s not an unbelievable talent or anything, he was quite highly rated a few years back pre injuries but he’s behind on his development technically and positionally at this point. A competent club would have him on loan in league one or bottom of the championship and have signed a starting right back.

You’re expecting way way too much of the kid (s).
Comes down to O'Brian offering more than Keane and Dixon offering us pace on the right in the absence of Patterson. Because seeing so much of Coleman and Young is ridiculous in 2024.

How many of you have seen him play and how many are just assuming he can’t be worse than what we have?

I've watched from u18s onwards.

Defensively he has a lot of work to do but that goes for any defender. Body shape and discipline are important and something he'll be learning as he goes along.

But his speed of recovery is superb. He can get up and down that line at pace and pace and athleticism is something neither Young or Coleman have. You get past them once they're out of the game (hence Young is a walking red card). Dixon would have half a chance of recovering.

Is he the finished article? No, not by a distance. Does he have something about him? 100% yes he does.

If he could get away with it Braithwaite would still be understudy to Keane.

Bit of balance thank you!

Got loads about him, pace is something you can’t teach.

Can tell he’s miles off it here though, they’ve got behind him, he dived in and he’s played a few shaky passes.

Looks good running with the ball/running onto it. A bit like early Seamus in that sense.

No idea what’s behind him yet or how to mark space.

He got back and stopped the guy from having an easy layoff in transition. Otherwise the guy is probably waltzing into our box. Should he have fouled there? Obviously not. But Young or Coleman are there and that is probably a free goal. We need him to keep his composure in that situation but he gave us a chance to defend it. We have to defend better on set pieces and the like. That was too easy.

A lot of what he needs to learn will come with minutes on the park though.

He's shown some good signs. Was rash with the challenge for sure and that was in response to Armstrong going through the back of him a minute earlier.

We'll see how long he's given before Young is brought on for him, or he'll move Mcneil forward and bring him on left back.
