Yep, we've clinged onto him a year longer than expected probably given his development. The 'possibility' of making champions league needs to be a reality for him now. Can't blame him for that, just wish there wasn't a pantomime round the whole thing.
The Pantomime will continue, whilst those so desperate to do it, can use it as a stick to beat the club, the board, the management and fellow fans with.

Which is an embarrassingly sad state of affairs.

I don't blame him necessarily but I do believe he owes us 1 more season. The previous 2 were a waste under Martinez now with Koeman we are level on points with Arsenal in our season of transition. Surely he could wait and see who we sign first before wanting out. Imagine if Kolasinac, Keane, Pickford, Rooney all come in early doors, surely those additions on top of 1-2 more and he would be thinking 'we could actually do something this season'

I get he's a Chelsea fan but they [Poor language removed] on him in the past and we came to his rescue. All he's done since is be honest and Frank and whilst I respect that he has done nothing but make us sound small time and him bigger than us.

Absolutely quality player who I'll be gutted to see leave, but providing we bring in a Dembele/Bakumbu/Giroud/Benteke maybe even an ambitious move for Lacazette then I'll quickly get over him.

Despite our increased financial muscle, I still think we're out of the ball park for the top players. Prices have risen exponentially.

If Rom goes, I think our best option is to develop a player into a top class striker. I can't see us funneling the money that we get for Rom onto one player...if one exists of similar quality. VVD's asking price is a prime example. I don't blame his club asking the 'going rate' but, we can't blow that on one player, IMHO. If we do, it can't be a gamble, has to be a proven scorer that hits the ground running.

...and the players of such worth will genuinely want to join more prestigious clubs than ours even if we could afford them.

I dont blame him speaking out, tbh. It's a long goodbye, I know. But he's seen how players have left Everton in the past and have been positioned as villains of the piece. I think he's determined to make sure that when he moves on that it's seen as an unavoidable consequence of the position Everton continually find themselves in and thus preserve his own legacy here. I believe legacy is important to him.

I'd guess, and it is just a guess, that despite having itchy feet last summer he was convinced to stay on another season with the promise of quality players to improve the squad and drive us the into Champions League. Thus his little hissy fit earlier in the season where he bemoaned lack of (promised) transfers

Most likely what he's angling towards. I don't think he's ever actually disrespected the club and despite what people say he's always worked very hard on the pitch.

He deserves a chance to play at the top level very soon and I'm just hoping he stays for one more season, to see if he can help us push on that bit further becore he goes to the likes of Real Madrid (which I think is well within his reach considering Benzema starts for them, and I'd hate to see him go to a club like Chelsea when he could be onto greater things).

He's kept us afloat in a couple to truly shocking seasons, and has no doubt been the best player we've bought since the 80s in my eyes.

Keane (think he is ok actually) and Pickford to Van Dijk and Hart. Plus Sigurdsson with Rooney and Kolasinac all come in early doors...then there might be a chance.

I actually agree, think he has genuine affection to the club. The club has just not been able to keep up with him.

However, if he'd just been the player he is without the constant talking to the press and comments we've seen over the years then most would see him sold this summer and wish him well. I will regardless as he's been a huge asset.

He owes Everton nothing. The debt if anything is in the opposite direction. It'll be around 70 PL goals in 4 seasons and a tripling of the cash paid out coming back to the club on sale.

I hope he goes on to win the CL. I'm sure he will some day.

I believe money is important to him.....and his agent

correct. 14/15 and 15/16 saw to that, coupled with abysmal signings in that time frame. Can you imagine being under Martinez, hearing murmurs of Champions League places, then the likes of Cleverley, Besic, Mori, Mcgeady and Lennon coming in, amongst others. Then couple that with back to back 11th placed finishes, failing to register a pathetic 50 points.

He wants out, that's undeniable. Everton should've acted sooner, in so many ways. The Kenwright regime is to blame.

I'm not bothered what he's said to reporters. He's always been professional and focussed.

He needs to take the next step now. He's seen good seasons at this club followed by poor seasons and I dont blame him one bit for anticipating that again...and he obviously doubts the club's ambitions in getting to the next level given his outburst about players being lined up but not bought last summer.

We'll definitely get a huge fee for him and it's just down to us to use that money well and attract genuine quality to try and make up for losing him.

No doubt he'll win the CL one day, he's just one of those players that will do everything in the game. Regardless of when he leaves I'll be sure to follow how he does.

This is what you said about Keane last summer.

Enough said.

He plays one more season first team CB at his club and has played for England last month. He has improved. I think he's ok but my stance has not changed at all. I prefer class CB like Manolas and Koulibaly.
