Romelu Lukaku

Chelski are playing a waiting game trying to get his price down, they 100% want him, he's one of Conte's main targets, has been since he took the job.
Waiting game isn't going to work in their favour. They know his price NOW is around 65m. The longer they wait, the more expensive he gets, as we have less time to get replacements in. To me regardless of price he shouldn't be sold, as we cannot attract similar quality players to join us any more. Just tell him he ain't going anywhere and that's that.

I think they want to play 2 up front and think they're lacking depth for that system.

Costa is still there mate. Genuinely unless he moves I just can't see them paying £65-70mil for Rom. They may go for Icardi, as reported a few days ago.

I do think there's another twist in this to come, maybe one or two, but think we'll b e extremely stubborn. We don't like being messed about. Raiola knows the score and by all accounts is happy - he makes money either way. Rom also knows the score.

Going nowhere, no ones paying the dough.

If they wanted him, they'd have paid it.

I do think they want him, but seem to think they can get him for less. We ain't rolling over - no matter what Rom does.

Unless they meet our valuation, he's not going.

Essentially it's not even that, it's to free ourselves from the restraint of FFP, so we can offer bigger wages to incomings and hold down our more valuable assets (ie. Barkley & Lukaku) with wage increases.

The above is a theory that has been proposed by one poster, with no corroboration whatsoever from any other sources least of all the club itself, and now everyone assumes it is gospel. I hope it is true but I'm not convinced. We can increase our wage bill by £7M p.a. without having to raise revenue. If our wage bill increases by more than £7M by bringing in Gueye, Stekelenberg, Williams, Bolasie and Kone after shedding Howard, Hibbert, Osman, Pienaar and Stones from last years bill then we have been as fleeced on wages as we have been on fees.

I think there will be a net spend this summer but only because of increased TV revenues not because of inward investment. I also predict an increase in the wage bill of less than £7M which would mean the Stones sale would only be necessary for generating cash for transfer fees. I stress though that I have no inside knowledge and this is just how it is appearing with the transfers we have been linked to.

Only time will tell who is going to be right.
