Romelu Lukaku

The problem isn't him wanting to leave - it's the manner of it.

Stones has done it the right way. Lukaku certainly hasn't.

To be fair, stones was the one to hand in a transfer request!

Still agree though. Handling it via the media is a tittish thing to do.

Handing in a transfer request and shutting up is the right way to do it if an informal request to move has been turned down by the club. Stones did nothing wrong whatsoever - carried on playing like a professional, never mouthed off once.

As you say, it's the media aspect with Lukaku which is the massive difference, and all it did was harden our resolve.

We won't sell Lukaku this summer, even if a club was stupid enough to get close to the asking price. He only has one choice now - sign a new contract and shut up.

I've got a feeling someone will stump up the big money for him and he'll go. If he does, and Stones goes too, then we've got a rebuild job of epic proportions on our hands as there's still a lot of deadwood to clear out. As a general rule it's not smart to replace 10 players in one window either.

What would you say to him, based on him shouting his mouth off and essentially telling everybody he's off to bigger and better things?

Dear Everton fans,

You over rate your club and have delusional thoughts about where you stand in the scheme of things. I'm a fantastic striker and you should enjoy the seasons I've played for you. You finished midtable two season in a row and have an incredible knack of overrating a player when they wear blue and calling them a Judas when it's time to leave.

In short, do one you scruffy meffs,

Rom.

I would argue that being absolutely dire in the second half of the season and looking as if you weren't arsed is hardly doing nothing wrong.

If ever there was an example of a playing leaving the correct way because they had bigger ambitions it was probably Pienaar when he went to Spurs. Ran his contract down but didn't stop trying in the meantime and didn't put the club in an awkward spot by handing in a sudden transfer request. More players should follow that example IMO. It's about time contracts in football actually meant something.
