Romelu Lukaku

This season he has had 18 shots on Target, Rooney and Niasse combined have only had 11 on target, Lukaku is on 7 goals, Rooney and Niasse combined are on 8, 4 each, found that interesting, were not missing Lukaku, despite what some people think

Of course we're missing him. He scores 20-25 goals a season and stats about shots on target don't prove anything. Sounds like some were taken in by the nonsense from last season that without Lukaku we'd still have finished 7th. If we didn't have Lukaku in Martinez' 2 failed seasons we probably would have gone down and Lukaku was the main reason we finished 7th last season. Put him in Leicester, Southampton, West Brom's side and they'd have come 7th and not us. Look at where West Brom finished the season he scored 17 in 35 for them - 8th.

It's true that Lukaku has flaws in his game, still evident at Man United, but there are also factors for his poor form and goal scoring at Man United that are similar to his time here - little service. The Man United fans have admitted he's had little service and that's when he struggles. When he is constantly given chances he scores.

There are things that people don't even consider from having someone like Lukaku up front regarding the opposition. The opposition defenders have to constantly worry about him, he has pace and they know he is lethal in front of goal and that affects how the opposition team sets up. All these worries would have made things easier for our own players instead of the better sides like Arsenal just streaming forward without a care about defending because they knew they had no one to worry about up front for us in that 5-2.

We miss Barkley's pace, desire to run with the ball forwards and creativity too though.

Not many goals though eh?
Rooney and Niasse have scored as many league goals as Lukaku had at this stage last season. Whether or not you think that the team as a whole would have scored more is perhaps down to your opinion of his ability to act as a focal point, bringing others into the game. Hopefully we'll soon see that Barkley was the real difference maker in that regard.

As the season wears on, I'm becoming increasingly convinced that the key issue is the defence completely falling apart.

Two of them put together?

Two of them put together?
Between them, yes. Should have clarified that.

If going from Moyes to Martinez taught me anything, it's that compensating for a limited attack is much, much easier than getting by on a poor defence.

Also, I think it's forgotten - or in some cases, omitted - that Everton went on a similarly poor run around this time last season, and that was with Lukaku playing every game.

Poor that though eh? In comparison I mean.
Oh aye, absolutely. The only reason I even looked it up was because of the 'spread the goals around' meme, and I was actually surprised that the two of them were level with him as a pair.

I'm very much hoping that Everton will go all-out for someone like Gameiro in January, but at the same time I don't think it'll make much difference without significant reinforcement at the back.
