To be fair to them, the ones that have a clue still have big club expectations and Lukaku quite simply isn't even close to meeting them. He's an abomination of a footballer in too many games. He has one good game in ten, and that's generous - in reality probably closer to fifteen - but he scores when he's terrible and gets widely excused by the Ultimate Team generation.

For example, if he had scored that chance, the conversation is different, when the reality is that people who know football would still know he was garbage regardless. Because he was garbage for the full 90 plus minutes whether or not he scored for one moment in a game.

Everton fans in general had lower expectations for a striker - if he scored, all sins excused. My expectations were never that low; yes, we're crap, but that doesn't mean we should tolerate crap - we should always aim to be better and Lukaku in a blue shirt, as he is in a red shirt, was the antithesis of making a squad better.

The fact we milked that much money from United for such a limited footballer will forever astonish me.
