Romelu Lukaku

Completely agree that he's a potentially world class counter attacking striker.

But how many top teams in the modern game set up that way? It's a negative tactical mindset that is operated by mid-table teams.

you mean just like the raging success he has been playing for a Mourinho counter attack team...

More than that though, it would be great to see him rampaging at defences again.
For a multitude of reasons, I don't think that we'll be seeing the Rom from West Brom or large parts when at Everton unless he implements a dramatic change.

We can talk about José's influence and how a new manager might help him, but he needs to be the major instrument of change by realising his own weaknesses.

I think back to his opening goals at West Ham away and rampaging against Arsenal to how explosive he was; his last season here, he made many goals himself.

Perhaps we're being overly critical, however I really do not see that as a common part of his game any more because he's lost his pace and impetus.

I'm not thinking for a minute that he would return to EV.
Actually I reckon he'll perk up and play a part in United's revival.

I didn't mean we'd see him here but rather talking as football fans in general. If he's going to play a part in their revival, then he'll need to make some changes!

In all reality, I think the possibility of Rom ever coming back to Everton is very, very slim to absolutely zero - that ship has sailed.

This is half of his problem, he's gone for bulk over lean functional muscle. Christ knows who his fitness coach is but they need slapping. He's basically become a post-injury Kevin Campbell. No slight on Super Kev intended, but he bulked up to adapt his game in light of the injury. Why Lukaku has done that I don't know.

The technical issues in his game will stay though. Still, a lean mean first season on loan Lukaku would be better than our current striker options.

@Daveysgingerlovechild his size and stature were already enough to bully most defenders in the league, so the logic behind his huge growth baffles me.

In fact, part of me doubts that the change was totally intentional: José likes large, physical players (Drogba anyone) but he's become slow and overweight.

Yes, your second paragraph may well be at the heart of it. Although, he did say he'd bulked up for the world cup, so maybe the Belgian national team are culpable too.
