Ronald Koeman discussion

Why do you always seem to imply that defence is the responsibility of solely the back four or five , that is the rank amateur airhead style of the last manager. When you are not in possession the WHOLE team has to work hard at limiting the options and trying to regain possession, not stand round waiting for an increasingly beleaguered defence to prevent a goal and regain the ball for them. It's not a new concept it's as old as the game. When we failed defensively it was the fault of the WHOLE team not just the back four. That alone needed a major fix.
Give it up, mate.

People have no concept of how football actually works.

Apparently all you need is a back-four of Jaap Stams, and midfielders who do magic passes that cause opposition defences to abandon their shape. It's that simple.

It doesn't matter that there isn't a striker at the club capable of controlling the ball and allowing the team to move up the pitch; just like there was no need to replace players with functioning football brains. You just commit bodies forward and let the four Stams worry about matters at the other end.

Looking forward to seeing how it works out for Belgium at the World Cup.

The manager was brought in as a massive upgrade on what went before - someone who could get us more defensively disciplined and competitive.

Is that what you think we've got?

..not really. As I said, I'm not defending him, indeed I've been critical. Saying that, he came in the midst of a window, appointing a DoF. I think it's reasonable to give him a couple of windows now that he's been able to assess what he has.

To be honest, I think we have at best a mid-table squad with mid-table players. I feared we would be fighting at the bottom but I think our points total is adequate in relation to performance. I think the points are as good as we'd get with this group.

It might get worst before it gets better, that's the reality with major change but major change is what we need. Posters understandably get emotive over individuals but let RK get on with his change. If it doesn't work he'll be out but we were going nowhere anyway. I won't approve of everything he does but it's his gig, let him get on with it and we can judge with more certainty in 12 moths time.

Moyes' spending record should be seen in in relation to pre-2009 and post 2009. In the earliest period (which is to say the vast amount of time he was here) he enjoyed a very decent net spend. (This has been gone over in the past). Post 2009 the roof fell in and we had a fire sale - that dragged his whole net spend for the period he was here down to a couple of million on average per season.

So you are taking bits to suit your argument. Just like you keep banging on RM's first season and completely ignore his 2nd and 3rd.

Moyes 13m over 11 years

17th to 4th

Martinez 50m over 3 years

6th to 13th

Koeman 0m over 0 years

11th to ???
£47M net it was...and add in inflation for any comparison with Moyes period which went back into a previous era spending wise. Martinez and any other manager under the new tv cash rich club era would have had to pay three times as much as Moyes would typically have had to in his tenure here.

You're comparing apples and oranges.

Ok, you bought this up again.

105 PL goals conceded in last 2 seasons. Open your eyes. What defensive shape was this? We did not even practice defending setpieces under the last manager.
...and how has it improved now with more bodies behind the ball? It hasn't. THAT is the point.

Adult managers do what they can do with a disorganised mess till they can crawl to a transfer window and improve. Attempting to stick to a footballing ethos which is failing over two seasons and denying there were defensive flaws was ridiculous. Martinez was only just denying how crap we were at the back just recently.

Moyes was after Lukaku, & Martinez got him after failing to get Ba. Wouldn't of went for Holgate, but brought in Stones? Sniveley stinks of a Moyes signing so fair enough I agree. It's not a poor squad but it is an aged squad without motivation. They have had the cuddle approach from that monumental £10million-stealing failure, Martinez. Time to see if the strict uncaring approach works. Maybe not, but ok, I'm not wetting my sheets yet. Koeman is a very lucky man to get this gig with the wages, & proposed finance to build a squad, let's see if he can get decent players in.

Ha Ha Ha.

Do me a 'kin favour mate. That useless ginger weapon would have stuck him in goal.

Lol.

Wrong again. The transfer fees gone up significantly after the new tv deal came to force. August 2015.

If you're adding inflation on Moyes purchases then you have to add it in on sales. Also don't forget we had many players best years under Moyes, some of which are still here. Which considering he's been gone for 7 windows is an utter disgrace.
